I plan on turboing my car in the very distant future, so for now I want to free up the exhaust a little. I was thinking since all I'm going to get before the turbo would be a shrot ram intake(already have), a 55 or 60mm TB, and an UDP, would an exhaust with stock piping a straight through muffler and a straight pipe be too restrictive? I don't really see the point in buying a 3inch exhaust until it will actually do me some good. What do you guys think. I guess I'm kind of going for the whole keeping the exhaust gas volicity up theory. Do I sound like a total idiot, or does this make sence

If you want to improve power while NA, just drop about $75 on some 2.5" mandrel bends from JCWhitney and some straight pipe from a local exhaust shop or something. Have it welded together the way you want it and have fun. If you have the header/dp and the muffler, it shouldn't cost too much to just replace the pipe in between.

Is the 2.5 really going to have that much of an advantage over a free flowing stock exhaust? Oh yeah, and do the resonators in the stock exhaust restrict flow any/much? And one last question, if I do go for the stock exhaust whith the muffler and straight pipe, would it sound ricey? Thanks.
Edit: I don't want to spend a lot of money on something I'm just going to replace later on.

The stock exhaust is not exactly "free flowing." If you already have the muffler back there, by installing the 2.5" piping, you will have the optimal inner diameter of the piping to make more power.
While 2.5" is still not ideal for a turbo charged car, it will be better than the stock. You will want to replace your cat with a hi-flow unit (if you have to do emissions), then you can just pipe it back. If you are worried about sounding too ricey, pick up a nice long glasspack from AutoZone for ~ $25 to put inline. They take most of the rasp out of the exhaust note of the mandatory fart cannon. This glasspack could be used to replace the factory resonator if you're worried about any flow issues.
If you went and bought the old used GST exhaust, you would likely be replacing that completely when you went turbo (not that it can't handle the power. They're good to ~ 300hp). So by doing this, and doing it right, you will have a true custom exhaust set up that is specifically designed for making NA hp. When you go turbo, you can make a 3" for about the same price, then sell the custom 2.5" you had to recover your cost and a couple bucks more (assuming it's in good condition). You will also have an easier time of making the 3" since you will already have the practice and know exactly what to do where.
Going this route will save you money and learn you something useful in the process. Imagine paying $75 for your 2.5" (you could probably do it for cheaper, but I included some labor from friends and extra piping in there), then pay another $75 for the 3" later. Think you could sell your custom 2.5" in good condition for $150? I bet you could. Think about it. Why pay $500 for a cat back that you could make yourself the same thing for under $100?
I say crawl under the old DSM and take notes of just what kind of angles you will need to buy. I know you need a couple 90* bends and maybe a 180* or two. Remember, you can cut into the bends too. A 180* can also be 110* and an 70* and so on. Give it a shot. I will be doing this on my all motor beast this spring. (I'd be doing it now if my refund check had been right...)

Nice, yea our's isn't a true 383, the guy who owned it before the last guy put it in. He did everything right except for some of the wiring, so we're in the middle of rewiring her. But yeah nices car, are they the exact same color?

yah they look like it. the interior is blue too. thats a pic when i first got it with the tag still on it =P. i got to play with it for like a week then garaged it for winter. the only problem with mine is the throttle not opening all the way. not really good with older cars but i know it needs to be fixed. cant give it all the gas it deserves
