Okay heres the situation, my timing belt snapped, the water pump froze up (the original one) and i am in the process of fixing it all back up. Before it snapped (maybe 2 weeks) I did a compression test it was 205-195-195-205, which i guess is pretty good, considering the car has 150,000 miles, i just pulled the head and inside was all bronze looking, and the pistons still were in good shape and i could still see the crosshatches in the cylinder bores, pretty light carbon build up considering the mileage, and its never been apart, the question is why is the head all bronze colored inside and the core head i bought from another member here was all silver? And what doees everyone think about the rest of it (shape of the pistons and bores)every reply is welcome and points for whoever knows why it is bronze inside.
BTW the car is a 1995 eclipse RS, and i have had it since 1999, and always done all oil changes and stuff myself.

it could be bronze for many reasons. one being you or someone else burned or are buring some oil. if the belt snapped, u might wanna check the head for bent valves as ^ suggested.

the belt snapped and bent valves thats why i am replacing it with the other head, as far as the color goes it doesnt seem like it is oil coated or burned, it doesnt clean off, it looks more like a metallic coating of some sort, it covers everything, except the journal surfaces, it is really weird

its oil...doesnt come off very easdy at all..somehow the machine shop managed to get mine pretty shiny. Then again they have it for 5 weeks longer than the 4 days i was quoted

I guarantee it's oil. Go to autozone, they have some degreaser for lke 4.99 in a white gallon jug (the stuff is purple though) get a big tub and put like a quarter or more in the tub w/ water, let is soak, and bingo, it looks like chrome. I did it to mine and it looks great and runs smooth too. peace
