#64250, "Alternator Hot wire has melted itself off for the 2nd time."

Ok, so I pull into the parking lot at the shop yesterday and the battery voltage idiot light is staring me in the face. We put it on the lift to checkout the alternator. I figured it was the hot wire coming off again because it happened right before I pulled my old motor about 4 months ago. Before I installed my new motor I soldered a new copper end on. Well this time it was not the wire (I soldered it really good emoji) it was arcing out the the body of the alternator because the plastic insulator melted! WTF! So we found a nice strong piece of plastic to use as a new insulator and put it back on. So far so good. But this is the 2nd time I have has this problem, I don't have any crazy electronics are shorts in the car. Has anyone seen this happen? Where is all the heat or stray current coming from?

The same thing happened to mine, and it blew the 120amp fusible link. I have a 100amp in there right now because I couldn't find a 120amp anywhere. People tried to tell me it didn't exist until I showed them the blown one. I used about 4 pieces of innertube to insulate the whole end of the hot wire from the case of the alternator. So far it's working pretty well.
