#64077, "Underdrive pulley questions-important for Tec 3 setup"
I need to know for sure(no guessing) if the AFX neon and eclipse crank pulleys are the same. If they are not then I need to know what is different between them.
Can I use a neon pulley on my car?
I also need to know the same thing for the Unorthodox crank pulleys. I realize unorthodox makes street and race versions. The part numbers are different between neon and eclipse, but I need to know if I can use the unorthodox neon pulley. Which one will work and which one will not.
My Tec 3 setup requires a crank trigger wheel. We bought the neon setup, but it uses the unorthodox neon pulley(it says race, but the part number references to the street version). It has mounting pickups welded in the pulley itself. If I cannot use this pulley, then we will have to weld a mounting bracket in my AFX pulley. I just wanted to know the AFX info, for a bigger picture of how each setup was alike or different.
I am also going to call Unorthodox in the morning and get the scoop. I would just like to go in with a little knowledge and figure out if they know what their talking about.
Thanks guys!

you cant use it with p/s and a/c without it should work.
You can have it cheap, fast or good. Pick any two.
If you want it cheap and fast, it's not going to be good. If you want it cheap and good, it's not going to be fast. If you want it good and fast, it's not going to be cheap.

No you cannot use the complete Neon trigger kit, Because the Unorthodox UDP for the Neon has a different belt for AC and power steering. Using the Neon UDP the v-groove belt for the Neon wouldn't grip and hold on our ribbed pulleys. But, if you swapped the pulleys from a Neon for AC and PS it might line up and work.
If you want to use your AFX UDP or unorthodox UDP for 2GNT you'll have to custom make a bracket to hold the crank trigger farther away from the block. so it will reach the end of our wider pulley.

I talked with unorthodox (Joe) and he said the Unorthodox neon and mitsu street pulley is the same except for the ribs or groove.
The mounting kit used for the neon Tec trigger setup, should work just as good with either pulley. It uses longer bolts that mount the pulley on the hub assembly.
I asked why they only had the neon race pulley listed on the electromotive site. He said that pulley is only the outer race pulley and still needed a hub assembly to mount on a car. The bolt pattern for the street or race(they can be swapped) is the same and this is what the crank trigger setup uses.
If I need to make a bracket that extends the sensor away from the block a bit more that is fine. I just didn't want to mess with welding brackets on the AFX pulley to make it work. That thing is going to be spinning very fast and the more in balance the better.
It is hard visualizing this in my head, but this make pretty good sense now.
I posted more info in the Advance tuning section about this, but this was more directed at pulley information.

9.) Install the hub onto the crankshaft. It may be necessary to heat the pulley. Use the stock bolt to secure the hub to the crankshaft. 10.) Bolt the pulley and trigger wheel onto the hub using the included M8x1.25 bolts.
The unorthodox is the only one that is two piece and uses a hub on the crank and then the outer section bolts on. The new Tec 3 setup gives longer bolts to take up for the trigger wheel thickness.
I do know Ritchie(see advance tuning) has an AFX pulley and he had to get brackets welded on the pulley itself so the trigger wheel could be mounted on. He also has the neon crank trigger pulley package. http://www.getfuelinjected.com/triggerkits/220-73001.html
Mine should bolt up easily.
