#63975, "High Engine Temperature when Idling - HELP"

Hi Guys,

I've only noticed this problem recently. After driving my car for a long period of time (i.e. on Highway), the temperature guage slowly climbs all the way up when I'm at a stop, but it slowly goes back down when the car's in motion again. If I turn on the AC when I'm at a stop, the temperature goes down as well.

Also, my RPMs at idle is higher after heavy driving on highway. Normally it hovers around 900-1000, now it's at 1500. I find that even when I brake the RPMs almost refuses to go below 1500 until I'm at a dead stop. And when I let off the brake, the car will automatically accelerate on its own (almost as if I pressed the gas pedal) and reach above 1500+ rpms.

I have also have 3 CEL codes: 17 17 43

Anyone have any insights into this problem?

Sounds like your thermostat has gone bad.

The cell code 43 (Ignition coil #1 primary circuit) is probably just being a side effect.

I use the 160* howell thermostat, nothing but good things to say about it, other than the heat in the winter isn't as hot.
