#63625, "Flowmaster cat-back kit? Opinions???"

I found a Flowmaster Cat-back kit on ebay that comes with the cat. I was wondering if anyone has this setup, or if they have ever seen/heard it. I don't want the ricey sound, and I don't want to be loud unless I am getting on it. I have been considereing a Borla Cat back, but they are expensive. Could some please tell me what they think of this setup:

If you read the auction closely it says:

SYSTEMS INCLUDE:

Performance muffler(s)
All Pipes from Catalytic Converter back (catalytic converter is in included) with Hangers attached
Clamps and mounting hardware
Detailed installation instructions

As for the tip, I can always put one on. I have always liked the sounds of flowmasters, but I have only heard them on non-imports. Anyone else have an opinion of Magnaflow???

I've been planning on having a Flowmaster kind of exhaust, but custom mandrel bent 2.5" piping, resonator, and Delta 60 (if possible) muffler on there. It seems suitable for a Chrysler engine! Domestic motor deserves domestic type exhaust, that and I've heard bad ass sounding flowmaster systems before, I don't like the ricy sounding exhausts, As long as a resonator is in there you should be good.

i used to have a 60 series delta flow cat-back. it was quieter than my current magnaflow system. it sounded pretty decent, not ricey at all.

Which one did you prefer? Which one sounds more ricey? Could you tell a performance difference between the 2? All in all which was better and which would you recomend?

I have the magnaflow cat-back. it rocks, I wouldn't get any other brand. it's not loud unless you go WOT, and then it sounds MEAN

I have the Flowmaster Delta Flow 40 series muffler, and its quieter than you would expect. Its very deep and not too much louder than stock. I love it emoji

from what i understand flowmaster specializes in baffle type exhausts. basically they put large metal walls in the mufflers to block flow and make the exhaust tumble which makes it sound deep and rumbley. this is the opposite of performance exhaust theory.

i can't say that the flowmaster catback for our car is like that but i do know that most of what FM offers is of that style.

i would second the magnaflow. i have a magnaflow muffler on my car and it's just mean. sounds great and doesn't impede flow. i also like the apex'i N1,the RSR, and the tanabe race medallion. emoji

heres my $.02:
you drive a dsm.... you almost have to TRY to make your car sound ricey... it will never sound like a honda, no matter what you do to it... (for the smart-asses: unless you put a honda engine in your dsm...)

i personally cant recommend anything other than the thermal cat back.
i have it, many other dsm'ers do, and just like myself, 99 if not 100% who run it will recommend it... its deep, not too loud at idle, but screams at 3k+

my cat back came with 2 resonators (sp?) im running no cat and a 4-1 greddy header.... yes it gets loud, but not ricey at all ever

but just as well, my cousin has a 97 2gnt with nothing other than a $50 fart can stainless muffler he bought from a local muffler shop and his sounds very very similar to mine, its damn near just as loud too..... no rice there either just deep, bass-like tone

welcome to the sound of the 420a, it is truly a great sounding engine when it can breathe properly.... never sound like a honda

sorry for the long post, but everyone always worries about their dsm sounding "ricey" and as far as im concerned, you have nothing to worry about

if you drilled holes in the exhaust you could prolly come close to the honda sound.

I had a Magnaflow exhaust put on my ride the day before my six-hour drive to Okeechobee, FL. It sounds great, and I definately noticed a performance gain. After comparing it to exhausts that are on friends' rides, I'm quite happy with it all around. It'll make a nice sound at WOT but yet isn't hell on your ears cruising the highway.

What is a good price for a Magnaflow cat-back? I have only found 1 on ebay for $260+$30 shipping. Let me know if you know of a good deal somewhere.

Where? Did you buy the parts through the shop, or did you buy them and then bring them to the shop to have them installed?
