#63584, "My Diabolical All-Motor Scheme (for those who are interested)"
Nov-24-03 07:08 AM by DR1665

I'm pretty sure I have this worked out. Getting it all together in April still gives me a couple months to get out to the track and get my launch down so I don't make a total ass of myself at the shootout (partial ass is okay, just not a total ass). Am I forgetting anything? Thanks and you have been warned... emoji

STAGE 0 - currently installed
10.5:1 CR bottom end by GotTude.com (Yes, MotoFool)
AFX UDP
Pacesetter 4-2-1
ported & polished TB (Dremel)
ported and polished intake runners (Dremel)
hacked air box mod w/ K&N drop in (don't say it - I know)

STAGE 1 - by Christmas
Rota SubZeros from WheelMax.com (or knock off, black or white)
ERT race port - Exile Racing Technologies
AFX ECU - 2GNTer
SAFC2- 2GNTer
windshield - can't run with this cracked POS I have now
CV(s) - Raxles.com
valve springs - Exile Racing Technologies
head core - 2GNTer (old stock head will be for sale ~January)
2.5" exhaust - madrel bends from JCWhitney

STAGE 2 - scheduled for early April
Crane #18 cams - Exile Racing Technologies
LSD (Dino's retrofit - assuming these really exist and I can get one)
Fidanza cam gears - Howell Automotive
*Autometer UltraLight elec. Fuel press
FMU (if I have to)
*Autometer UltraLight elec. Pyrometer
PT lash adjusters or whatever - Exile Racing Technologies
digital A/F - GadgetSeller.com
Screamin' Demon coil pack - Howell Auto
*Autometer UltraLight elec. Oil press
PC valve cover - SM Polishing?

If the order listed seems kind of awkward, it's because I pasted straight from Excel where everything is listed in order by cost. Somewhere in there I need to grab my GSX brakes too. I would appreciate any and all input as well as all the "attaboys" I can get since the wife is not going to be happy when she hears I'm investing close to four grand on Daisy (the other woman). emoji

All that work and you are not getting at least a CAI?? lol, that seems to not make sense. And i noticed you put the valve springs in stage 2? Wouldnt it make sense to do all the valve train work at once. Why put the springs in early? and not when you put the new valves and stuff in?
just curious.

They really do exist. Several people are already running them.

Search on the main site (or the forum for that matter) and you'll find a tech article writeen by Carlton (owner and designer) on the operation of the unit. his phone number is around here somewhere too.

sweet. Thanks Dino.

And the valve springs are going on in Stage 1 (it's after Stage 0) when the head is getting ported and machined up. This way, come April, all we have to do is swap in some cams...

I wish it was summer already!

Something you might be forgetting is cam gears. One of the mags did a power pages and got 7whp from cam gears and some dyno tuning. With your mods you'll prob get more like 20+

cam gears are in there man. Fidanza's - $230 from Howell

I might get a hi-flow cat someday... when they make me put one back on. Striaght piping it through a glasspack and the MagnaFlow. NO-CAT HERE. emoji

I'll probably break down and pick up a short ram along the way, but we'll see. It would be funny to break into 14s without one though, wouldn't it? emoji

Get a CAI at least for track use. You'd be amazed at the temp difference between an CAI and a short ram (datalog IAT). Also I don't see Ti retainers ... might as well upgrade since you're upgrading the rest of the valve train.

that should be an interesting set up.... but i absolutely agree with everyone else in saying "get a cai..." they really do make a difference you wont be disappointed...

only other thing i could thing of is maybe bigger injectors and s-afc?
(not too familiar with the afx ecu though.... safc may not be needed...)

i too thought about going this route, then i realised for about the same amount of money with a little more tuning, i could be boosting hardcore.... lol

Yeah, for the amount of time and resources invseted this way, I could be running close to 300hp, not 200hp. It's all about the respect... to some people that's more important. LOL! emoji

If your trying to go all motor, why dont you get a stroker bottom end from howell, or fasterthanyou.com?

I built my motor stock displacement with the help of run4cvr, taloniized, Uber and COTA472. I saved a ton of money. Although I do wish i had picked up the stroker from time to time...

i'd have to disagree with the cam gears. with 18's you already have so much overlap that the exh valves are open during combustion. if you increase overlap you're going to make this worse, and why would you want to decrease the 18's? imo stock cam gears are fine unless the aftermarket ones weigh less.

i would add in a clutch and lightened flywheel somewhere. this is on my immediate list of things to do. i'm prolly going with the SPEC2 Fidanza from Howell.

I'm getting the gears more as a precautionary measure. It just makes sense to install them all together at the same time. You never know when you might need or want to try to tune something. With this kind of setup, I want to have as much adjustability in as many areas as I can.

As for the clutch, I have a modular PT Cruiser clutch in there for now. It's not like we're going to be making mad power all-motor. It clamps a little bit tighter and suits me fine. After I play all-motor for a while, I may go high comp turbo or dabble in the nitrous. That's when I'll seriously look to a better clutch.

It will be good to see all the all-motor people though. I am really getting excited now. emoji

personally i'm more interested in the lightened flywheel. i installed one in a jetta last weekend and it gave the car a nice little push. considering the power of a SOHC jetta i think it'd be a good mod in a 2gnt
