#6353, "CAI Questions"

I installed my cold air intake, and loveo the growl, but now my car seems like it's humming or something when I turn the wheel.

but anyways, the intake pipe was a little FAT so I had to cram it in between my battery and valvecover, so the pipe is pushing up against some wires hooked up to the valve cover by a screw, and up against the batter itself. Should I worry about heat? I ordered a Yellow Wire Loom Kit to cut down on heat so the wires wont melt or anything, but it isn't here yet.

Thanks

>now my car seems like

>I turn the wheel.

Mine does the same thing. I had someone else turn my steering wheel while I located the sound. It's just air going into the intake, it's louder because the filter is an open element.

>I worry about heat?

I have a huge Diehard Gold battery and mine is sort of cramed in there too. Put some padding between the battery and the CAI or it will rub a hole into the CAI and possibly the battery. The "wires into valvecover" you are describing is the Camshaft Position Sensor. Mine hits that also and I've had no problems other than a little oil getting on the CAI.

Do you have an oversized battery, too? I'm ordering an Optima Red Top to stop my CAI from touching everything.

what do you recommend I use for padding in between my battery and CAI until I buy a smaller one? oh yeah, forgot to mention, my filter is pushed up against the outter coverhing thingy that the fans are behind, so if they plastic was to break, it would be open game on my filter lol, no problems there tho, checked it out, only thing that may happen is the filter get warn down faster

Try using rubber, cloth, styrofoam, whatever works for ya... just as long as it doesn't put a hole in your CAI.

Don't put anything flammable there like a cloth or your engine will catch on fire like Cyan's did. I used a rubber tube over the bar that sits between the battery and intake. But that fell off later on, so then I just used some duct tape as padding.

use some that 3/4" hose from the avc and put it around the battery tie down bar where it rubs and tighten it with a fastener. It has worked forever on mine

you dont want it restin on the camshaft postion sensor, mine did and broke it, 100bux later, the intake was still sittin on it, and pushing it out of its harness, and my car would cut off while driving. i jerryrigged two bigass zipties around the ecu mount and the intake pipe. as for the batt rubbing up against it, use sum silicon hose over the batt tie down like the guy above me said. i never thought of that, but would look nice too.

I wouldn't use play doe, I don't think the engine would like when that got sucked in. I use a wire nut that is big and barely fit in then I put in in there with a hammer so it won't come out.
