#63358, "Battery to Alternator connection BURNT UP...ideas why?"
Well I was wondering why my battery light kept coming on. so I got under the car today to find that where the battery connects to the alt was all burnt up. The lil crimp thingy was all melted on the alt screw and the wire harness was just dangling detached totally from it. So any ideas why it burnt up? Also do you think my alt is shot? I just came inside to post this before I re hook up the connection, so i will find out soon. 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 10th Anniversary OZ Edition

Well I just cut off the old melted ring and crimped on two new ones to the wire harness and nutted it back onto the alt. and it kept the battery charged...so i guess my alt aint shot. I drove it around for 5 mins to see if it would keep the charge and it did. I just had to stop driving cuz im still leaking mad oil.. 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 10th Anniversary OZ Edition

dude I had the exact same problem. If you do a search you might find it. Happened a couple of years ago. I actually had to get a new alternator eventualy.

im pretty sure the diodes in your alternator arent to happy right now. you are probably leaking a good amount of a/c ripple through, and you might notice some wierd electrical things going on eventually. the battery is probably filtering most of it out now, but dont expect either to last very long. sorry to hear about your misfortune, but it could have been a LOT wors (like engine fire worse).
