#63145, "Hydrolock... Yup i did it"
Nov-15-03 12:36 PM by TapRooT

Here is what happend the story.
I was driving Wednesday in the rain and went under a bridge with high water with my CAI on. I didnt realize how high the water was until i went through it and my car completely died. I had to get it towed to my house after i knew it was hydrolocked for sure. So i took the spark plugs out immediately and got some of the excess water out... not much came out. I put them back in and finally got it to turn over. It was knocking like a mad biatch but the idle stayed fine normal as it ever was but just with a knocking. Then i changed the oil and lots of water came out. So i know there was alot of water it came out for like a full 1-2 seconds just pure water. So today i did a compression test on it here is what i found
115-175-180-175 so i know its something with first cylinders im thinking its maybe just the valves? But i dont know yet. So i just added some oil to the first cylinder got it to go up to 125 still not good. I'm talkin to insurance agent adn there gonna cover all of it thankfully. So after i fix it its either trade it in for a gs-t or gsx =( im just tired of the non turbo car. I was eitehr gonna build it up for turbo but now i just decided not to. I went and test drove a gs-t today and just want one so bad now. Thanks ! any opinions are welcome! any ideas what it can be?!?

i think it is hydrolock. he he. i think you should get a gsx mainly because you will love the AWD and once you have it, you will never go back. by chance i get my gsx fixed anytime soon, i will love it again! thats cool that the insurance comp is paying for it. that is what they are there for. good luck.

i dont think it would be your valves, they wouldnt be affected by the water....i would GUESS either just bad rings, or you completely hydrolocked #1 and slightly bent the rod emoji i dont know, just a guess...but i really doubt its the valves

If your insurance rate is already high or moderately high and you make a claim that is your fault why get a GST GSX? My insurance is 200 a month right now and i just got a ticket and slammed into a pole at 30mph. Theres no way id get a GSX lol, be like 1000 a month.

Just fix the engine and turbo it:)

But for comprehensive insurance the hydrolock is under the acts of nature like wind, water, flood, ice, hail whatever. Then your insurance rates dont get higher because my parents had hail on both there vehicles totaling over 10k and their insurance rates weren't affected. So why not sell the shitty automatic RS and get me a turboed eclipse =)

lol...you arnt getting the point. Doesnt matter what happens like an accident. Check insurance right now for the Eclipse RS/GS then GST/GSX. They will be different policy for policy.

But anyway, i find it odd they are going to hook you up with whatever you need and not jack your insurance up. I slammed into a pole cause the ground was wet...that isnt an act of nature. You put a CAI went through a puddle, sucked up water, voila you get your engine fixed. Not an act of nature, imo.

Lucky though emoji Who is your insurance?

HEHHEHE i know what your saying. I mean i know the mechanic he is my neighbor. All the insurance company is going to do is call him and see what needs to be replaced then they will give me the money for it. I already talked to them and thats what they want me to do. So that means they wont see it. The mechanic will be the only one to see the engine except for myself and a few of my friends that helped me with the car when i was tryin to fix it. And another question when i trade it in since i think the mechanic is going to request for a new engine completely will it decrease the value or increase it because it will have 80k on body but 0 on engine? I was just wondering. I know it will increase value on private party sell but didnt know about trade-ins. Right now i already test drove a 97 gs-t and am seriously thinkin about getting that one. Its a 97 with like 109k lots of miles but seems to be in good shape but going to get a few of my friends to look at it. They want like 7,900 for it but i mananged to talk him down to 6,500 =) So that doesn't seem like a bad deal to me. I'm going to get that and just do engine mods unlike i did with my car. First thing 16g, fmic, full exhaust, and hope etc. etc. etc.!!!!

I still dont understand how all this is working, other than pure luck and disposition.

Just don't get caught man. If I was to tell my insurance that I sucked up water into my engine id hope they're smart enough to understand that a stock intake would probably not suck up water because thats just the way it's designed.

Im also surpised they're just gunna cut you a check, my insurance wont even do that for the wreck I was in.

I could only wish I could say that =). I don't think the insurance would cover a turbo kit unless i actually told them it was on there anyway =).

*Info just In*
Mechanic just called me. He talked to the insurance claim adjustor... New engine on the way!!! emoji Well as soon as it gets installed its time for GS-T or GSX! emoji Because if i wasnt selling it or trading it in it would be botton end rebuild time and turbo time! But I've decided im just going to sell it and get a GS-T or GSX preferably GSX but have to see how things work out!

Ohh yah franklindsm i checked insurance rates out man... Not as bad as i expected at all. My insurance right now for a 98 RS is 979 every 6 months. For a 97 GS-T its 989! 10 Fkin dollars lol i thought it would be alot more but nope. Then i checked out the 99 it was like 100 bucks more. Then the GSX was a bit more then 97 was 60 bucks more then the 99 was 150 every 6 months. So it's still not bad at all i was thinkin of like 300 - 400 bucks more but nope.

Sucks to hear man. Had my car hydrolocked a few years ago. Luckily I was only going about 5mph. Cleared the water out, changed oil and motor ran strong and turboed for 4 years.

Friend of mine has a buddy that just h-locked his engine in a Civic today. Bent rods etc.

For everyone who says a bypass valve for the CAI isnt worth it may wanna think again. IT CAN HAPPEN!

Good luck with your new ride!
