2 day my car is running after rebuild, my battery light comes on today. I tightened the alt. belt today as much as I could. I dont think I over tightened it to make it work harder. I tightened the bat. terminals. (those two things I found out to do searching the board) um...should my alt. recharge my battery on its own? I drove it around the block for like 2 mins...but just keep gettin worse. Then my SRS light came on now...so I drove back home...im still tracking oil all over my neighborhood, I kno I lost 2 qts overnight the first time i got it back thursday, now when I check my oil it says its reading max on the dip stick...which aint right at all...cuz man there is just oil everywhere...I dont know what to do...any help?

my battery light came on a couple months ago. I hust had a new battery put in like 2 months before that, so I took it to autozone, and they said it was the alternator. So I took it to a shop, and they changed the battery and I havn't had a problem since.

The shop changed your alt? or your battery? I know my battery is the original in the car, and I have had it for more than 2 yrs...so maybe its time for a change huh?

Damn Mike... lots o' problems, eh? I'm in Charlottle, NC... been here a couple days... so I haven't checked up on the board until tonight. Here's what I think:

Battery Light - get new terminals first, they need replaced anyways... yours suck. My stock terminals made my car act the same way... and they looked good. It's not your battery, I used it for 2 weeks with no problem. Check things in this order: cables tightened, terminals, belt, battery, alternator.

Oil leak - are you SURE it's motor oil that's leaking. That rear main was installed perfectly. Check your tranny fluid. That may be leaking and is my prime suspect. Did you install the drain plug and rubber stopper after you filled it? If it IS motor oil, check your drain plug, oil pan, oil filter, and oil filter thread bolt.

Good luck man... if you can't fix it, we can look at it this weekend. Later man...

Mike,
May sound stupid but this always works:

Two things...

Check the color. Gear lube is generally a beautiful golden color, when brand new. If it's old gear lube it will have a black tint to it...and if its OLD gear lube it will smell like the worst ass youve ever smelt. Shit, even new gear lube smells like ass.

Check the smell.

Like I said above gear lube smells like used ass wipes. Smell the fluid coming out, if it smells with a hint of a crude gasoline id say it's oil. The color of the mystery fluid will give you some hints.

If all else fails do this:

Take some flourescent coloring and put it in your oil. Get a black light (i know you got one rice boy) and shine it over whatever fluid comes out.

If you see flourscent problem solved. If you dont it aint your engine emoji
