#63013, "Frankenstein Motor Question..2.4 and all"

I was pondering at work today while cooking a few chicken breasts and the Spyder motor popped into my head. First of all, does the 2.4 SOHC motor use the same motor mounts as the 420a? If so, would it be possible to put the DOHC head on the block itself? This might have been answered before, but ive never seen it asked. Thanks for any info

The 4g63 and 4g64 are really very close engines. The 2.0 head will bolt onto the 4g64 block I believe however I know that our tranny wont work with the engine you would have to replace it and I think you would still have to replace the mounts to make it work. Not worth it in my opinion if you have to have a 4g63 just buy a GST.

1998 Eclipse GST

and by head he meant the 4g63. The 4g64 has the sohc head.

Same as swapping in a 4g63, not worth it.

Might as well put that brain to work on making swap kits or custom pans and mounts for the chrysler 2.4

i was talking about putting the 420a head on the 4g64 cuz i was told that it would work. so the spyder trans would have to be used...?
what kind of mods would have to be done to convert that??

Well you could tell the person who told you that it will works that he's an idiot and if you realy wants 2.4 4g64 Eclipse just sell your car, buy a Spyder and weld a top on it, it will be less painfull than trying to fit a mitsubishi engine inside a 2gnt

Now if you really open your eyes and understand that the 420a engine that you have is in fact a Chrysler engine, brother of a Neon engine you will also realised that there's a close cousin in that familly
made by Chrysler and also a 2.4 engine who founds its way in the Stratus, Sebring convertible, Cirrus, Breeze, Caravan, Pt Cruiser, Jeep Liberty and was turboed for the SRT-4 and Pt Turbo

with hard works and imagination you could build this engine

you need a 2.4 chrysler short block like this one

and you put SRT-4 pistons and rods

and you put a 420a head on top

now trying to figure out all the details to drop it inside the engine and connect everything to the ECU is another story

Im just wondering which one is the one that fty sells. There site says they have a 2.0, 2.2, and 2.4. From what it sounds the 2.2 is a bored out version of the 2.0 but the 2.4 is another engine all together. I'm just finishing with my turbo kit and am looking for the best engine to use.

Any of those is a good choice. The 2.0, and 2.2L will be a direct drop in however as alain said^^^^ it will require a lot of fabrisation to shoehorn the 2.4L into your car. But you can not put a 1g engine in unless you are talking about a 1g NEON.

everyone who has a 2.4 on this board has the 2.4 pt cruiser/sebring/etc engine unless they drive a GS Spyder, then it's a 4G64.
