I am on the road to visit some friends up here in Holland, Michigan. As we arrive into Holland, I start hearing this knocking/ticking sound extremely bad. Its gotta be something internal, because the rate of knocking/ticking changes with the idle and rpms when driven. This sound is haneous, it makes me not even want to start the car or drive it anywhere. Plus I live in northern indiana about 2 hours from here. So it looks like I am stuck up here unless I can figure out whats wrong n get it fixed in time. I was wondering if anyone from the holland/grand rapids area would be willing to meet up n help me diagnose this problem and perhaps help fix. I am in a serious jam here, with a broke 2gnt. I have to be back by monday morning for work or im screwed. its now saturday afternoon with no progress. please help.

Well I can't help but my car made a noise very similar to what you discribed and it was a rod bearing... sorry for you.

Well my car is n Holland still sittin in my friends driveway. I am getting a trailor and hauling it back this week. I took it to a mechanic to see what he could tell me and he said it was a rod. My pops n I think its either a rod bearing or a main bearing. Now my question is, I now have rebuilding options to take choice of. Can I just replace the bearing if need be? I would much rather rebuild the bottom end though. I will also be doing most of the work so this is going to be a great experience and a chance to gain some more knowledge on the 2GNT. All help, ideas and comments are appreciated.
