#62275, "Failed emissions"

Well I decided to just get sniffed, without switching cams, witout the exhaust being done, and spewing more engine codes than a beat up junker.

I failed OBD-II scan... obviously. (an EVAP code appeared out of no where, had it not the misfire code probably would have failed it, but...)

I was surprised the results were not that bad, even said so by the tester. I'm now basically convinced that Crower 2's will pass emissions on a stock head with stock compression. But the milled and ported head I think just confuse the ECU too much (especially since the port job isn't the best.) That with the tiny exhaust choking out the engine some, doomed to fail. But it was interesting none-the-less.

I have two re-tests, probably just swap cams back for the first one, unless I can play with the car enough to try, for shits and giggles to get her to pass .

You know the funny thing about emissions in some counties vs others is how someplace like Phoenix where we do it, we get about 6 ozone warnings a year, whereas someplace like LA does it and they still get about 150 ozone warnings in the same year. I'm just glad I'm a student and don't have to f with inspection here in AZ. emoji Soon I'll be dumping my cat and picking up an ECU a la AFX. emoji

Sorry to hear about the recent failure sir. Maybe you should start tuning for the most economical 2GNT on the board. If anyone could squeeze 50mpg out of a 420a, I'm sure you could. emoji

Damn you and your no emissions. I'd have to prove residency and other stuff would need to be done as well. I can swap cams back to stock in no time and be good to go. I an get it done one day after work and be fine. Car s coming into winter and not being driven much anyway.

Funny thing is, my Neon with a beat to hell catalytic converter and driving like ass (catalytic material clogging and choking the car out), put out slightly worse emissions than the RS and squeeked by with a passing grade. Difference between '95 and '97...

50 mpg? but... I'd be slower? Noooooooooooo!!!!! (talk about a nightmare)
