i was wonder how important it is to have one on, or could i modify it to show the cam gears? any help is appreciated.

The 2GNT is Gone... and the curse too!!

I took the front timing belt cover and cut it in half. Tossed the top half away and kept the rest. I think it's the best solution ... Allows you to see the gears but at the same time protects the belt.

I left the cover off. Before I cut a hole in top half to access the cam gears. It worked, but it was a long, involved pain in the ass process to cut the cover. You can leave it off, it will be fine. If anything the timing belt might wear out a little bit faster, (being exposed more) but it should be a minor concern at best.

i cut mine in half... just took a hacksaw to it and it was off in a minute or two. i like having belts protected but i also needed access the cam gears without having to take off the stupid cover all the time... so this is sorta the best of both worlds

werd... i cut mine in half too

yeah, mines cut in half also....sort of broke in half, but it works.... its just scary thinking of something comming loose and getting stuck in the cams/timing belt....but if something comes loose, youve got other problems

I tried that before and got away with it for awile until a little snow got between the gears and belt. Pealed it right off the motor, I'll never do that shit again, very dumb move on my behalf.

My car doesn't see snow anymore (well, it doesn't drive in it, it just stays buried in it during the winter ) so that's not an issue for me.

But, thanks for the heads up. It's good to know that this could be a problem.
