Im not sure whether or not to tap into the exhaust manifold for the EGT probe or to tap into it on the downpipe. Can someone fill me in on where to put the probe? Its a stock manifold. no turbo.

Tapping into the manifold gives a more accurate reading. By the time the exhaust gets to the downpipe it has cooled down some and your also reading all four cylinders as opposed to one single syliner by tapping into the manifold.

Somewhere I read that the probe may be to long if I tap it in certain spots on the stock manifold. Also, do I have to worry about the ceramic cracking when i tap into it? Anyone have pics of theirs on the stock manifold? does the heat shield have to go or will if fit back on after the probe is in? Should I go w/ the westach probe instead of the autometer?

Depends on the probe, but most EGT probes have weld-on bungs that hold the probe up about 1/2", so you can either tap it into the manifold or use the bung.

I just drilled a hole in my heat shield that the probe fits through. You can also tap the bottom of the manifold and install the probe upside down so it doesn't interfere with the heatshield.
