#6191, "Rough Idle Symptoms - Better when just reset the computer"

Hey all, I just realized that every time I reset the ecu, my car idles a LOT better. Then over time, the idle gets very rough, and lately has been stalling a lot. I have a ported and milled head on my automatic eclipse, and it's always had a rough idle since the head work. But why does the idle get worse over time, and every time I reset the ECU, its almost a perfect idle? Could it be my downstream o2 sensor (which I haven't had in for over a year)? My idle was fine with no downstream o2 before the head work though...any ideas?

Yeah you could have a bad O2 sensor.

The ECU adjusts fuel etc. over time to new conditions and sets trim values. Maybe the ECU doesn't really know how to deal with the new set up all that well.

Hell you could always wire in a switch to kill the memory power to the ECU and clear it every so often if performance and idle is better with the base programmed fuel curves.

The strongest way to block, is never to provoke a blow,
And the cleanest cut is the one withheld."

Hmm so maybe my upstream o2 is bad also huh? I notice it responds a lot slower now, and sometimes shows 0 bars when cruising without the gas pedal down. It still displays rich when at WOT, but during normal driving, it doesn't move that much. What do you guys think of buying used OEM o2 sensors for 45 bucks each?

Can you tell me what the MAP sensor looks like, or where it is? I assume I need a voltmeter to check it right?

As posted on:
http://63.99.108.81/dcforum/DCForumID13/2493.html

you can get new NGK o2 sensors for 38 + 5 (s+h) from Nopi.com
so i would presume that new is better than used.
