I was quoted 45 bucks for an MLS head gasket from autozone. Sounds pricey to me but MLS is the way to go.

do dealers sell kits that include all of the gaskets that you are going to need to replace at the same time? (exhaust manifold, intake manifold, etc) how much are those?

Dealer.... not crap-to-zone

actually i just finished my headgasket job like a day ago and the headgasket that was included in the headset was freaking nice. the whole headset was made by felpro. they have mad gaskets in the headsets. i got the head set from autozone. all very nice for a very not nice price of $103.99

There is a *world* of difference between the head gaskets that come in the autozone/felpro kit and the Mitsu 4-layer MLS. I got the Felpro complete kit for a stock motor I built, but then just threw away the Felpro headgasket and used a new OEM.

You can call up Bob Kise in MI and get the whole upper gasket set.
-intake mani (2 pieces)
-camshaft position sensor
-valve cover w/ plug gaskets and grommets for under bolts
-exhaust mani

GET THE MLS
Make sure it's a metal gasket made up of multiple layers of metal. I don't know what the Felpro looks like, but the real MLS is hardcore. Metal with riveted edges and all that.

Do you really want to do this again without putting in pistons and rods and all that?

hmm

A Felpro HG would not be the way to go imo, unless you were running high boost and were afraid of warping the head if ever the hg were to blow. I think Mitsubishi made the 420a hg with the cheaper floppy kind than realized later that was a mistake, so now I think you can only get the MLS from the dealer.
A MLS gasket is choice. The head will blow before a metal HG ever does, so in the future , be careful how you tune. But everyone knows this so this is redundant. emoji
