its a great mod. EASY to install. you do have to drop the pan however, as well as the crossmember (maybe) and youyr downpipe. it replaces the pan gasket (between the block and oil pan)

many cars come stock with windage trays, they work exceptionally.

I did it with other stuff, so tuff to get a feel for just that, but I recommend the mod.

It's a pretty easy install. I would definately drop the downpipe. It's a good idea so you canb get a good look at the clearances and the alignmenmt of the scraper. I RTV'd the upper part, tightened down the bolts about hand tight, let the RTV set for a while and took the bolts up, then put the pan on boltign it all down. Check that the crank turns freely, by hand, before you go and start it up.

yeh it keeps the oil where its suppose to be in the pan. at least most of it, that way your crank doesn't have to slosh through all that oil making it harder to turn. I guess its the same effect of putting lighter oil. Why the 2gnt didn't come with one in the first place we'll never know.

i got my crankscraper yesterday from the group buy, i just did my headgasket and all that stuff so i'm kinda tired of working on my car for the moment, so i'm gonna give myself a rest and wait for another 3k miles, when i do my next oil change to put in the crankscraper. however when i do do my crankscraper, i will be taking pictures and doing a write up for everyone, so when i do that, i'll make darn sure that i post it on here as soon as i'm done emoji

This is from an ebay ad: "As the engine rotates, engine oil is not thrown off but instead sucked into a tornadic windage cloud around the crank and rods: the horsepower that is required to move and move through that oil is significant. The scraper strips away that cloud by coming close to – but not touching – the spinning crank and connecting rods and this frees up that internally consumed horsepower. Remember that as you accelerate, brake, go up and down hills, and turn your vehicle even more oil is whipped up and power lost; stock engine output is determined from a static test so the scraper will help restore that lost power ASAP! In highly tuned engines, too much oil splashed on the cylinder walls can overwhelm the piston rings and thereby be introduced to the air/fuel charge. This contamination will lower the effective octane rating of the fuel and can lead to detonation. Lastly, a crank scraper can improve your fuel efficiency. (If you can resist the urge to put the pedal to the metal!) This is well-proven technology that has been used with great success in small and large displacement high-performance street and racing engines for decades. In fact, we just completed an updated scraper design for a 1965 Pontiac 389 -- this is an OEM engine that utilized a crank scraper in the form of louvers cut into the side of its windage tray -- that's 38 years ago folks.

Installation instructions are included. The scraper simply bolts in place in between the block and oil pan. The next time you change your oil, simply drop the pan and install the scraper. You do not need to buy two pan gaskets but rather only a tube of good quality RTV silicone gasket maker to apply to both sides of the scraper. The scraper is constructed from 12 gauge mild steel (approximately .10”). Some minor clearancing might be required which can be accomplished with a simple hand tool like a good metal file (the mild steel is easy to work with). Please double-check to make sure you have the 420A engine (It may be known by a different ID when used by other manufacturers)."

Windage trays do the same thing, but work a little better on turns, while the cranscraper works a little better on straight runs.
