only took 'em 5 hours yesterday and 2 hours this morning, bastards. told me yesterday car'd be done by 4... anyways, I suspect the cams aren't timed right. I can't describe it better than a hissing rattle noise. not to mention, I'm not sure the mechanic set the cam gears to anywhere near correct timing, they're both at +/- 0, and I don't see any signs that they're remarked. I know the story about "lining up the gears and marking where it should be", but I haven't seen any photos of fidanza gears marked correctly... second thing, I put that timing belt cover window (or, rather, my dad was paranoid about it being off) back on. something made a dreadful noise, much, much worse than the noise that sounded like the valve noise. it was the cover hitting the gears.
I guess the ultimate question is, are the cam gears not on far enough, or should I just rip that hunk of plastic crap off? and get the damn things timed right.
also, is there a "cam gear timing for an absolute computer geek" guide?

I don't see how you can check the timing unless you pull off the crank pulley to see what the cams are set to at TDC. That's the only way I know how. I also wouldn't be suprised if it was out of time ... regardless of how easy it is to get timing on (if you just take 15 minutes to do it right) shops can never seem to get them timed properly ... ass clowns.
If you want to check the marks on the Fidanza you'd have to overlay a stock cam gear on it and see how the marks fall. I think that they should be ok though.
