#61313, "Vortech S-FMU Installation"

Alot of you must have already installed a Vortech 8:1/12:1 S-FMU on a 97RS (FPR by the tank???? Weird fuel config system!!!), Good for you and good job. I on the other hand, I have not! I'm stuck. Does anyone here have any sites and/or written procedures on installing one from the start to end? Please say YES. Procedures like this should be in the front page, just a little suggestion.. emoji

When is the money spending going to stop on this fucking car?!

I don't think this should be in the tranny section emoji.

This is in the wrong section.

The writeup for installing an SFMU is on the main site. Have a look:

Moving to Perf/Eng..

First of all, I know I made a mistake by posting in the tranny section, (I have no clue, what went on in my mind) And I thank the moderator for a fine job moving this to the correct section.

Now my question. I understand that I have to run a fuel line back to the tank. But my concern is, first of all, are you talking about the return line from the FPR to the tank? So I would take that line from the FPR and then connect that to the where now? I'm confused!

Bottom line...From the schraeder valve on the fuel rail to the feed connector on the fmu. Then run a fuel hose to the tank from the connector closest to the firewall back to the tank. So what happens to the return line from the OEM FPR? I know that it goes back to the tank, but now that I have to run a return line from the FMU back to the tank what happens to the return line from the OEM FPR emoji
Please help. This is the only thing I have left to do and I'm completely stuck.

Keep in mind that it's a 97 RS.

When is the money spending going to stop on this fucking car?!

I think you have to disable the fpr so you can use the sfmu to adjust your static fp. other than that its like installing a regular fmu I believe. Man wish I had one now emoji

the return line goes into the nipple on top of the fuel pump that is used by the stock fpr. after you disable that, you will have the nipple available to use for the return line.

Call me dumb, call me noob, call me retarded.....wtf does sfmu stand for? I gather it has to deal with the fuel system and all (duh) I was just curious to see what it was exactly, not to get off the subject.

S= Super
F= Fuel
M= Mangement
U= Unit

by Vortech Engineering

what the fmu does is increase fuel pressure within a certain ratio of existing fuel pressure for ever pound of positive manifold pressure it sees. Thanx to this magical cylinder you can now increase your mixture while under boost there by making you run richer, richer = more power if you got the air to support it; ie turbo/supercharge/or even nos.

now the SFMU is a different beast from the FMU though it takes it a notch further and combines a fuel pressure regulator. This way you can adjust your idle fuel pressure so your car will still idle propery with bigger injectors but and still take advantage of the features of the regular FMU.

man I talk so much good stuff about this and I don't even have one. NE1 wanna sell me one emoji

Alright, thanks Hades, for the explanation. I sort of tuned in to the basic discussion of what was going on, I just didn't know exaclty what it was. Does the sfmu only work with turbo/charger/nos, or would it even be worth an install on an nt?

not worth the $$ unless you use it to rise with boost. it does not improve performance on it's own.
