Is it worth it? Also any real difference between crane and crower S/S valves and spring sets? Yes, i tried the search.

thanks

Typically a machine shop will do a 3 angle valve job when heads are rebuilt anyway. You really start to pay extra for a 5 or 7 angle job. When I cut valves, I cut 3 angle. Unless you want to build a badass motor, 3 angle is fine. You can hand lap valves to save money and you are guaranteed a correct seal but you'll have some nice blisters to show off to ladies from it. I have no knowledge of the Crane Vs. Crower valves.

Shit is all apart. Typical...

3 angle should be the normal performance or lowest grade valve job...

performance minded should start 3 5 7 and work up to full radius

everyone has their custom amount of cuts so it can vary...

you should not pay more then 200$ for a full 3 way valve job... if theya re charging you that tim bring the head into spokane and ill get ya a better deal at the machine shop..

You can have it cheap, fast or good. Pick any two.

If you want it cheap and fast, it's not going to be good.
If you want it cheap and good, it's not going to be fast.
If you want it good and fast, it's not going to be cheap.

I may very well take you up on that, and maybe a few other motor fixes as well, since mine is dead!!!

Step 1: Put down everything in your hands.
Step 2: Grab a lucky strike, Smoke it.
Step 3: Walk to the fridge, double fist some keystone ice, sit down in the shade, drink one beer, finish cigarette, drink other beer, roll a joint, smoke it, walk back to your problem, and in about 5 minutes the solution will come to you.

To save this from hijacking (kinda)...

Is there a power tool to "hand lap" valves? While doing it I was thinking... why can't you just put a suction-cup dart in a power drill and go to town?

I've seen guys take old valves and use grinding compound to clean the valve seat. They make kits you can attach to a drill I beleve with the grinding stones. You'd have to look around, maybe Summit or Jegs would have something.
