ive been seriously considering buyin the afx race computer for a few weeks now and ive been trying to find as much info as i could for this so i figured id ask the most important question i have about it. i know that since it raises the rev limit to 7200 that its a good idea to replace the internals. i was just wondering exactly what internals i should replace, like names and brands, and how much they cost? also, is it true that as you add mods to your car after getting this, you gain power? it said that on howell's site but im a little skeptical as to that being tru emoji finally, would it be a good idea for me to buy the afx udp and a new tb before getting this or should i get it at the same time or are they even necessary for this? thanks for any help.

the ecu is only good for the my 97 cars. it raises the revlimiter, but its not 7200. thats what the stock mt eclipse's are. the comp also advances ignition timing. so if you plan nitrous/turbo, then steer clear of this.

Actually, the race model raises redline to 8100 I believe. I don't think it's really mandatory that you buy the titanium mish mash for your head, more so than a quality upgrade. You want the stronger springs etc to prevent valve float. I don't think you'll be spending as much time above 7000 rpm as you think you will.

I would say that if you pull the head and take it to a reputable machine shop for basic head work (ie; flow test the valves etc), you're looking at about $250 for them to flow test it, do some mild retouching of the bowls and mill it flat at the headgasket. Then you could pick up some PT Cruiser valvatrain components for ~$300(?). They should sufice. I hope so, sine that's the route I'll be going when I get my ECU. emoji

You do have a 97 model, don't you? Otherwise, you've got a pipe dream on your hands sir.

It would work with nitrous, but you will be pulling your hair out trying to tune the damn thing.

I asked this in another thread and it didn't get an answer I don't think so I'll ask it again here. Has anyone been able to get to the 8100 redline with the howell ECU? I thought you would still hit fuel cut before you were able to get there?
