I seem to be leaking a very little bit of oil from the back of the HG. I am going to retorque the head this weekend. The first time i followed the order in the overhaul manual, and torqued them to 60 ft/lbs per the instructions from ARP. I want to torque them to about 90 ft/lbs this time around. So should I open the valve cover and just torque them to 90 ft/lbs in the order illustrated in the overhaul manual? Or should I remove all the nuts on the studs and start over? This is my weekend project, along with finding that wicked vibration above 3.5k rpm. thanks guys!

Definately don't torque them to 90 lbs, you'll warp the head!

You will have to re-do it to get an accurate seal.

The ARP head bolts are supposed to be torqued to 100ft/lbs if I remember correctly. I think its actually 105. Thats what they are made for.

Mine are at 90ft/lbs and everything is cool. Just go in the proper order and leave it all together.

Actually... ~70 ft lbs is within the specs. I torqued mine to 90 ft lb. Why the hell would the head warp if they're torqued to anything? Start tightening from the center bolt and spiral outward. Re-torque 3 times. You'll be fine. I hope your headhasket is okay... that would be a major concern of mine.

Mine are torqued to 90 as well.....no problems here.

I've just heard that it can warp the head in between the studs from too much pressure at the studs (aluminum is soft).

cool,thanks guys. so i can pull the valve cover and torque to 90? should i torque to 75, then to 90? im going to do it tonight.

Yes you need to do it in steps. Don't forget to follow the sequence.

No No don't loosen them at all just do the 2 step torque method to get up to the 90FT/LBS but you have to do them in sequence.
