#60820, "2.4l?"

ok this is going to sound like an extremely noob question but im going to ask it anyway. what is the point of swapping a 2.4l engine into our cars? i know it gives more power but does the engine respond to boost better than ours? also, how is the longevity of these engines and where can you get them from? any other information you can give me on this engine/swap would be great. again, im sorry for the noob questio emoji but thanks for any hel emoji

yes you could turbo these engines, the 2.4L is the same engine that comes in the SRT4 and PT Cruiser Turbo

really? cool, i didnt know that. would it be better in the long run to turbo a 2.4L or keep it NA and use maybe say a 75 shot of nitrous on it?

I would say it would be better to turbo it, but it all depends on how much money you want to spend. It's going to cost a couple grand to build a bullet proof 2.4

FTY SerialKiller 2.4 Liter 420A: $2895

You're a sick puppy alright. You want the baddest block you can squeeze into your 420A'd DSM. We stuff this puppy with some of the meanest parts we could get our hands on. You want options? we've got options! We stuff custom Pauter rods into this big 420A. Then, we Stuff your bores with CP Pistons. Want 8.8:1 compression? No problem! Want 10:1 pistons? Hey, we can do that too, since they're made just for your motor. We can get you any compression you want. After that, we dig you up a block (There's no core charge on this puppy) and a crank. We Hot tank, resurface, bore, honed (with a torque plate,) balance, blueprint, and assemble all these bad ass parts into one lean, mean 2.4 liter shortblock capable of withstanding anything you can throw at it. We also throw in JE Rings, Clevite bearings, a Melling oil pump, new front and rear mains. Please note that these blocks are custom in nature - we need to order custom rods, and pistons for this block, so it can take 8 weeks for us to receive everything to put this motor together. This motor required extensive modification to your eclipse to wedge it under the hood, so make sure you have an understanding of what you'll need to do with your car before ordering it. Cars that came with the 2.4L should be able to put this under their hoods without a problem.

This is not the engine from the SRT-4 or PT Cruiser. People are creating frankenstein engines from Stratus blocks and 2GNT heads. The internals can come from a SRT-4 or they can be aftermarket. Things will have to be rewired, brackets will be fabricated, engine mounts will be modified, downpipe will be modified, and oil pan will be modified for starters. Its a big project to take on. There is alot of information hidden in old posts. If you search "2.4 swap", you will find more than you care to read.

I wouldn't go through all the trouble of building a 2.4l and swapping it in unless you planned to turbo it. I think the point is that alot of turbo guys end up building new engines to run high boost. Then if you are building an engine anyway, why not go a little further and make a 2.4l?

About 20% more that stock for the 2.4L. Nobody can give you an exact power estimate because it always varys from car to car. Basicly if this is your first time doing a rebuild or install then this is prolly not for you. Until someone comes out with a kit that covers the whole project there will be lots of side expences and headaches. If you don't yet now your way around an engine then don't bother with this, you have to do all that corbin mentioned plus more like rigging the fireing order, and switching cam magnets and stuff. There is a lot of custom work.

2.2 is much easier .. it's a regular 2.0 with a stroker kit
and 2.2 is more like 2.150L actually it's a little short on the cubic centimeter to make 2.2L

this is what a typical 2.4 frankenstein looks like

that one is my sweet baby emoji

SRT-4 internals, balancing shafts removed, decked top and shaved head
mostly made with new parts except the head from a 96 Avenger and the short block from a 2001 Caravan

The 2.2L is a direct drop in replacement, and I would go with FTY or VT before I would buy it from howell..... I'm still very angry with them.
