I bought some #10 cams and some AEM cam gears, and while I am anxiously waiting for them in the mail I was wondering:
Does the 420a respond to cams and gears well? Is installation a bitch? and a guy I work with told me something about needing shims??? whatever that is, anyone know wtf he is talking about

what company makes the cams you bought? I heard that #16 was the one to go with but i have no personal experience. There was a recient post about cam shafts. Also you will need to go to a dyno to get the most out of your cam gears.

u might see 20hp from crane 10's they are the most mild cams jsut barely a step above the stock cams...
our cars really like the bigger cams like 16's and some tuning on the dyno with cam gears and you should be able to pickup a couple more ponies...
You can have it cheap, fast or good. Pick any two.
If you want it cheap and fast, it's not going to be good. If you want it cheap and good, it's not going to be fast. If you want it good and fast, it's not going to be cheap.

#10's maybe the mildest billet cams made for our cars but they are much better than stock cams and quite a bit up from the stock specs ... take a look at the sticky post about cams in the Advanced Tuning section. Todd runs the #10 cranes. He makes 135 wHP and runs 15.3s.

I think 16 is too much for our cars if you stay NA, unless you have some good electronic setup to help the idle. I would say go up to 14 cams, 10 might be a little too mild for all that work.

actually the 12, and 14's are made for turbo cars and the 16's are for NA. If you got with something lower u will need cam gears to set the overlap just right. They explain it well in teh cams thread in advanced tuning. i don't the the #'s actually correspond to increasing duration and lift of the cams.

and MAKE SURE that you remark the lines on the AEM gears or you'll go thru all the BS I just did. Do a search and you'll see my post and a picture that was posted of how the gears should actually look
Ohh...yeah...the picture was posted by "thedawg"...just to give due credit (thanx...that helped QUITE a bit)
---Harry. My car topped out at 140 this morning. I need "turvo." Two of 'em. And Harry, I need the glue to be dry by tonight.---
