I just bought a spare intake manifold to port and polish i also was thinking of getting it powdercoated to make it look nice. Then i was thinking of Ceramic coating. If i ceramic coat it how much HP will i get if any at all. If its a small gain i dont want to even bother for 1 or 2 hp. Im trying to make my engine bay look nice. what do you guys think. Looks over performance (if any). Please give me your input. Also i am adding a 60mm TB and a AEM V2. if that means anything

what would be the point of ceramic coating an intake manifold? NOOOO! never seen a powder coated manifold tho', that'd be tite

powdercoating looks nice, but I look the look of a polished manifold better, especially when the valve cover is powder coated

Well ceramic coating asorbs heat keeping the intake cooler then it normally would be. yea im leaning towards the powder coating. my valve cover is Mirror Silver with black Letter im going to get the Intake mani Mirror Silver too. Im not a crome fan

I think you mixed up your materials somewhat. ceramic is an insulator. it keeps heat in, or heat out. that's why people use on the exhaust side of the engine - that keeps heat where it's supposed to be - on the inside of the exhaust piping.

your intake manifold is made out of aluminum. aluminum is a metal that has a high heat conductivity - it will absorb heat quickly (the ceramic you are suggesting for this task does NOT do this)

that is also why companies make phenolic spacers. it keeps the intake manifold from absorbing heat from the block. if you want to keep the intake cool, get something like that.

the only way you could make ceramic work for the intake manifold is if you coated the surface where it makes contact with the gasket/engine block. still don't recommend that though! get a spacer instead.

I would get the outside of the intake manifold ceramic coated, if anything. This would keep the heat of the engine bay out of the intake manifold. I would then use a set of phenolic spacers to keep the heat from the head out of the manifold.

You could also coat the interior of the intake manifold with an insulating material. That would keep the intake manifold from transferring heat to the incoming air. That would be a pain to get the inside of the runners coated. It would probably only be useful when the air was moving slowly (low RPM). I'd really just paint the intake manfold or polish it as you see fit. My intake manifold is painted black like my valve cover.

I think "Outlaw" was coming out with an insulating spacer that went between the intake manifold and head. Insulating the intake manifold won't hurt, but we have yet to see how much it really helps.
