#59972, "Need Help-dying at idle and stuttering while accelerating-Diagnostic Questions"

Hey guys-

I've done searches and I seem to have a similar problem some of you have.

My car has been cutting out on me at idle every so often but would start right back up. The CEL would be on but when I do the the key dance, all I get is 12 and 55 which means nothing. My ECU has never stored trouble codes and has went loppy on me before and was replaced at 45,000. Back then, with the bad ECU, the car use to cut off completely when I reached high speeds on the freeway.

The second problem is that it "stutters" like its going to die when I'm cruising on the freeway. The dash board lights come on ( I swear it looks the SRS air bag light but I'm sure it's the whole thing flickering) for a second, I lose some power and it comes back in another second.

My car is a 95 with 96,000 miles on it. I replaced the TPS, IAC, coil pack, spark plugs, fuel filter, oil changed and cleaned my TB and intake mani. My Magnecor wires were changed when the car had about 35,000 miles.

My question is if I bring it to Mitsu/Chrysler, Autozone, Pepboys etc. for a diagnostic- would they be able to check it out if I don't have a CEL on and my ECU doesn't store any trouble codes? I remember Satan charging me 100 bucks last time when they couldn't figure out my dead ECU and couldn't find any trouble codes. My car runs like a champ when its not having these problems. Any other suggestions are welcome.

thanks guys emoji

try unplugging your EGR. I was reading my OBDII manual the other day and it explained that EGRs generally only open during WOT, for obvious reasons. Secondly, that if the EGR were to open at idle speed it would totally flood the engine with hot gasses proving a bad start up/idle/blablabla.

Try checking your CTS, coolant temperature sensor. Or maybe just call around to see how much a diagnostic run will cost you. And when they tell you what;s wrong, take it home and fix it:)

how do i check my coolant temp. sensor?

also, i'll try unplugging my EGR.

Anymore info/suggestions? Also, anyone know if diagnostic machines will work if the car is running fine and has no CEL.

thanks guys

EDIT: I just called Pep Boys and they said that they couldn't run a OBD scan unless my CEL is on. ARGGHHH!!
