I know this might sound cheesy to some of you, but I found a way to use existing parts to make a ram air intake. Inside the fender well is a horn shaped tube coming from the air filter that angles upward towards the top of the fender. I took that off and cut 3 inches off of the end. On the filter housing is a water drain tube that sticks down fairly far. I cut a hole in the bottom of it and inserted the part I cut off with the opening pointing forward. The drain hole at the top was small so I cut out the restriction. Now when you look under the car you see about 2 inches of this “scoop” sticking out. Not far enough to hit anything, but enough to create a ram air effect. Basically I have twice the intake area I had before, but once you get moving the extra power is amazing. It feels like having a turbo. And this is a true cool air intake because the filter isn’t getting heated up by the radiator fan. And since the water drain portion isnt straight into the filter box, it would take a hell of a lot of water to make it to the filter. I didnt block the fenderwell opening, so I dont think its actually building positive pressure, but it is making more power. And I'm getting about 1-2 miles more per gallon at least. The fenderwell opening should protect against water ingestion also since it will provide another path for air. BTW, I used a soldering iron to cut the holes in the plastic...

Um.. no.

So what you're trying to say is that you cut an opening on that water drain thing and created some sort of scoop.. but your stock airbox is still drawing in air from its original opening. I think whatever ram air effect this would make would be negated by the original filter opening. The extra power you may be perceiving is probably due to less restrictive air intake cuz of the new hole.. and possibly cooler air coming in from the bottom.

turbo... ?? How would that be anything near a turbo?? I don't know what to say..... you were just joking right?

the "ram" air is not a real ram air cas u could be losing presure with the stock opening in the stock air box...the extra power is coming from a lil bit cooler air gettin into the motor...not the ram air...if u want ram air block off the stock inlet...then ya will have a real ram air

Sounds like a decent "free mod" for a CAI. But to say it's like a turbo I think may be a little optimistic. Otherwise I don't think people would spend thousands of dollars on turbo kits. But keep up the ingenuity ...we need people with initiative around to keep pushing our car to go faster

I think he ment "like a turbo" in the sence that when he first starts off it's just like normal but just like after a turbo spools and starts generating boost, it takes off.

Similie... using like or as to compare two diffrent things.
