#59029, "how important is the subframe or whatever the hell it is"

ok I rebuilt my engine b/c of a spun bearing.. I havent put on that black "subframe" part b/c I dont know if its really needed.. I dont really know what it is, it could be a skid plate for all I know.. it connects to the bottom half of the radiator by 2 bolts and connects under the tranny housing.. I just didnt put it on b/c one I'm lazy and two less weight emoji please let me know how important if at all this is...keep in mind I've drivin 800 miles w/o it so far and no problems.. also I bought some synthetic all purpose grease to grease underneath everything.. any tips on where to grease would be good..thanks

If you mean the cross member, then I think you better put it back in. It supports the tranny. One end of the cross member connects to a support under the radiator with two long bolts. Then there are two small bolts that connect the middle of the cross member to a motormount on the tranny. The other end of the cross member connects to the body near the cat converter with two long bolts. I think it is an important part of the car.

Yeah if you want to take it out, you beter fabricat somthing that goes from the front motor mount to the front brace under the radiator to support the engine/trans.

Motor mounts are generally fairly important.

Can you imagine how much his engine must be flopping around in there? I mean we put in little bitty 1/2 inch motor mount inserts, just to cure a tiny bit of movement still present in the stock front motor mount.

Try dumping the clutch... I bet you could break the axles with a stock motor cuz of all the wheelhop. emoji

I had a buddy in KS with a Ford Pinto he chopped into a pick-up and dropped a 289 and a Mustang tranny into. He was always snapping axles, breaking shocks off their mounts, etc. Scary. It was a good way to win some beer money though. We'd intentionally lose the first race for $10, then waste a sucka double or nothing. Haha. Good times. emoji
