#5896, "Star Stage 1 questions.......making purchase asap"

What blowoff valve comes with the stage 1? (if any) Thinking of a 1G with flange if it does not......any suggestions(inexpensive)

I can get any option with the turbo. I am going to get the E-Trim option and want to know if there any other options to get that would allow the turbo to spool up faster. I am looking for compressor and exhaust wheel sizes or any other details you can give me. I autocross the car and want full boost below 3K if possible and want it to hold till 7K. Ball Bearing is not an option.....this would cost me $.

How about Stan or Jason or Corbin.......if you can give me the specifics, I will get it built that way. I am also going to see if I can get it ported.

hate to tell you this, but with a E trim and I'm assuming the t3/t4, you're not going to see full boost for a while. It is one of those turbos that are good for high ends.

Better shell out money for that BB Hybrid, or a stock t-25.

hop ethis helps out.

are you sure there no options in building the T3/T4 that will make it spool up fast. I do like the top end power.....just want the best of both worlds....or maybe a compromise?

I'm not real familiar with the garrett turbos, but that T03/04 turbo is a big'un. I have a friend who has one on his VR6 Corrado and it still doesn't really get spool'in till 3500+ rpm's or so. I can only imagine how long it takes on a i-4.

Maybe consider the straight T-3 as an option. The T03/04E isn't a turbo for the faint of heart in my opinion. It's a big huge turbo, much bigger than what even most 4g63 guys use. It's even bigger than a 20G turbo, much less a 16g.

Aren't you a big X-crosser, Deano? I'd consider something much smaller if I were you. Even my brother who has a T-25 in his GS-T would probably spank me in a X-cross if his suspension were as hooked up as mine. In second gear, even as low as 2000 rpm's his car is pull'in harder than mine at the same rpm's.

I've said it before...we get a little excited over pure HP numbers and 1/4 times rather than thinking in terms of driving fun and real world power. I'm not saying that the T-25 is the best option cause it's not, but I don't think going for a T-88 (I'm exagerrating) is the answer either.

My S-16g sees "full boost" at about 3200-3500 rpms totally depending on gear and so forth. Now, it pulls from that point all the way to redline which is nice, but I would be lying if I wouldn't be even more happier if that turbo started pulling at about 2200-2500 rpms or so. But everyone's gonna have their preferences. Some people are gonna want mad pull at 4500-5000 rpm's and nothing else is gonna make em' happy. Just get whatever that floats your boat, but don't get a turbo wholly b/c it has the highest HP capability. Who cares if the turbo's power band occupies an rpm range that your car can't even take advantage of. (ex. 5000 rpms' to 8500 rpm's)

Oh yeah...nice to see ya Deano...seems like I haven't seen ya around here for a awhile.

Full boost will be reached by 3500rpm with the optional T3/T4E. The same turbo with a .048 turbine AR ratio would cost exactly the same and spool faster so although its not an option if they are putting your kit together they are going to have the turbo supplied by turbonetics. It cant hurt to ask them if they could supply it with the same turbo but with a .48 A/R instead of a .63 A/R. It will still pull up top easily but spool faster. The BOV option is a cheap one, less than the E trim option for the HKS standard BOV. GO for it . better yet you and mrpimp can fight each other to buy my stage 1 pipe with BOV:

I dont think you'll have any trouble autocrossing as is, it still pulls better than stock at 3000rpms. You might be doing top fuel burnouts if it spools too fast on a tight autocross.

I ordered the Stage 1 kit with the T3/T04E-trim with .48 AR on the turbine housing. This should give me full boost at 3K. I appreciate the offer on the intake pipe/BOV. The kit already comes with the HKS STD installed and this should work for now. As you probably know I work for S&A Motorsports and race SCCA solo II for our shop. We decided to go through Mike at DSS(reseller/wholesale)since he has the homie-hookup at Turbonetics.
He was outstanding to work with on the phone and I would recommend everyone go through him if you are considering a star kit. NER is just too unstable for me to work with. I wanted a proven kit with good components. I can also change out housings etc on the turbo to get different results quickly/cheaply. I will be competing next season in street modified and will try my skills at a few prosolo events. I will be moving up to Divisional events and maybe try my luck at next years nationals.

I maybe sending you a few e-mails now and then for advice on the STAR. If you have new instructions or numerous tips I could use, do not hesitate to send them my way.

To the others that replied.....I will be seeing ya in my rear view....LOL Thanks guys!!!!

You know, I've heard some of the guys over at DSMtalk.com refer to a Mutt turbo. Apparently this baby spools in the 2000+ rpm range and might be what you're looking for. The only problem of course, is getting everything else (manifold, fuel system...etc.) to go with the turbo you're looking for.

I really liked how Shawn at NER was was willing to set you up with a different turbo to fill your needs (T03, T03/04...etc.). That's REALLY the direction you need to go IMO.
