#58922, "Strange idle after 55mmtb install..need help" Sep-10-03 09:44 AM by BMPDirk
Alright, so after i installed the 55mmtb bored by howell, i started the car and it sounded like the butterfly was bangin against something and the car sounded like it was going to die. So i turned it off, and reset the ECU. Turned the car on again and everything was perfect. Now, my only problem is, when the car is moving and the clutch is in or the car is in neutral, the rpm's stay at 1600 rpm, and go up to 2100 rpm if i turn. Before, it would stay at 1000 rpm and like 1200 if i turn. But the weird thing is when i come to a complete stop, the car idles at 800 just like before. Now, i thought it may be the throttle cable but my safc2 says the throttle is at 0% when this happens. Any ides anyone? im still going to try and adjust the cable.

Sounds like the combination of Cams and TB. I have the same thing.
Since the ported head, sometimes even higher. It's a vacuum from the cam, bigger TB so slower intake air velocity, and ECU adjusting to different MAP values.

Smooth idle? We don't need no stinking smooth idle.

Of course there's another reason mine goes even higher sometimes, around 2k, that I forgot to mention. Because of my "roadside idle repair.
I have a piece of vacuum hose running from the inlet on my CAI to the inlet on my intake manifold, for extra air. Without it, my current set up doesn't get enough air at idle... of course that was before some tuning... maybe after exhaust I can try getting rid of that... hmmm...
