#58687, "Argh, CEL on...what could it be???"

Alright, my car has been making a funny whining noise the last 2 days. This morning I went to try and find out what it was and couldn't. I know it happens when I accelerate, so I revved the car fairly high....sure enough as the RPMs came down the muffler started to sound like it was stuttering....and wouldn't stop (even at idle). I got out and looked and the muffler was moving back and forth (not side to side) ....like it had a ton of backpressure or something and couldn't get it out. (on a side note I just recently got a resonator in my exhaust system - 1 week ago). Sure enough the CEL came on. So I turned off the car, and check what code it was: Code 43 Ignition coil #2 primary circuit or Ignition coil #1 primary circuit.

Shit! This would explain the rough idle that I have (car almost stalls, but catches it self and revs back up during idle) wouldn't it?? A mechanic told me it was because 2 of my spark plug wires were gone, which I replaced - this fixed the idle but it came back shortly after. Thats when someone told me it was most likely the coilpack going.

So knowing this code....what am I left with....just the coilpack is gone? Or could it be other things too? Or something else completely different?

I drove the car and it drove fine under a normal driving load. I didn't rev high or anything - and never went over 50 km/h, just in case - but it drove like nothing was wrong. But when I revved it the muffler stuttering/spurting definetly scared me.

Any help would be appreciated.
Mike.

It's your coilpack. I had the same funky idle in my avenger not even 100 miles after getting it. Changed the plugs and threw in my Screamin' Demon coilpack. It helped but it came back again. Then I bought new wires and it has been fine since. I think they were both faulty though.
