Howdy all.
A couple days ago the idler pulley AND tensioner pully broke on my car, leavign me stranded... thats not really the point. I have everything off, I have all the parts, but I can't get the crankshaft pulley off. I've talked to a mitsu tech friend of mine, and he said to use a pulley puller... which I have. However, I don't have anythign to stick down in the hole, liek the special tool... I tried using a 6inch extension for quarter inch drive ratchet, and it looked like it work semi-well...
ANyway, i was hoping someone would have tried soemthign in the past which helped them out. If anyone can give me an easy solution to get this off (today, saturday) i'll ship you $20 via paypal.

That thing was a bitch! I believe we ended up going to AutoZone and borrowing a crankshaft pulley puller or something (they have a list with pictures so you can see it) and it came right off. The problem we had was there is a little pointy cone thing that goes on the tip of the long bolt that free spins as you turn the main bolt. This keeps the pulley from turning while you crank on it.
As far as the special tool they say you need when you put it back on, (and you WILL get there ) I used Dino's technique: a giant socket (34mm?) and a mallet. pound that fucker on.
NOTE! Watch out for the little key that goes in there. If you lose it, youaint' goin nowhere...

I made a "special tool" to remove mine. I started life as a steel rod. I cut it to shape, and welded a washer to the top. The washer side stays outside, and the rod plays the part of the crank bolt. I use the crank bolt to get the pulley most of the way off, remove the crank bolt, throw the rod in until it bottoms out, and push against the middle of the washer. When making this special tool, it is important to size it by putting it in the tapped hole in the crank (that is used for the crank bolt) as it will go deeper then the crank bolt will. The rod must be a good bit longer then the crank bolt to work, as the threads seem to end before the hole in the crank. You have a PM on how to reach me if you need help putting this together... -=B-=
Dude, Boeing called. They want their wing back.

dude.. I've removed about 6 crank pulleys from eclipse's.. here are my 2 technics... one (cheapest) use your pully puller, preferable one that is too big and that you need to take off one of the legs too, and then connect it and reattach the leg (trust me), they support more of a pull..and for that hole, use a freakin cheap socket, I dont remember the size I used, but it was small(5mm??) and it saved the threads of the puller bolt.. second way (cost nothin in the long run) go to autozone, rent the pully puller for chrysler engine (60-some bucks), it comes w/ a thread saver, but you have to add a socket to it too for the correct length, then just tighten and bamb...takes bout 45 seconds if you do it this way.. then take it back to autozone and get your money back.. cost ya nothing.. if ya are still stuck hit me up on email or aim.. rawdawgstv.. later and g'luck
