Ok I don't know that much about cars but I have been working on a friends 95 non turbo talon. It is in bad shape. But here are the problems. Occasionally it just dies while driving. No sudden kicks or jerks, it just drops the RPMS and turns off. Usually when that happens I cannot get it started again for about 10 minutes. I replaced the fuel filter and the problem of it not starting right away left. I have had the cat checked out and I was told that was just fine. Also the engine runs rough as though one of the pistons is not firing correctly. The plugs are good. The coil packs actually failed the resistence test and I have not replaced that yet. I know that would cause the engine to run rough but would it cause the car to shut off? The plugs are also new. I thought maybe the fue pump but I hear no bad noises from that like I have from other fuel pumps when they went bad. The car has about 118K miles. I have tested almost all of the sensors and they check out fine. I have no check engine light at all. Any ideas on what I should try next?
When they go bad, they are a PITA. You may still need wires too. Mine checked out to spec but once they were replaced, all was and has been good.
My dad's coil pack went out recently. When he would make a right turn in gear the car would just die. No sputter, no cough. Just death. You might try looking up Bob Kise 810-714-3300 at Forum Dodge in MI. Mention 2GNT and get a discount on the coil. Local dealer here in Phx want 145+ for them. Also, pay attention to the pins style on the connector. Some have flat pins, some have regular pins.
either the coil pack or the cam angle sensor rubbing on a hot EGR pipe. Take off the intake piping and inspect the wiring coming off the CAS, the little sensor on the exhaust side of the valve cover. If that arcs and grounds out the car will just die out of no where and then start about 10 minutes later and then die again and the same story again. Check that before you replace a coil pack, they arnt cheap and its a lot easier to fix a grounded out wire, given that it isnt too shot.

Thanks I will have to try those this weekend. Also to add in a few more quirks. The engine has a hard time accelerating until it hits about 3000 rpms. After that it takes off. Also I just noticed the main belt, not the alternator one, is not on all the tracks correctly. Also the problem with the car dying is not consistent. It happens like once or twice a week which makes it hard for me to link it to a problem. Do these sympoms change anyone's ideas?
