I just took my car into get my timing belt changed and the guy is charging me $375 to do that. Now he calls me back up and says my hydrolic tensioner is needs replaced, my water pump is leaking, and my cam seals need replaced. Now how much would it cost to fix those 3 extra things? I know since the timing belt is taken off and you have everything tore apart already the cam seals are easy and don't cost that much. The water pump is what 120 max...and the hydrolic tensioner? He is now charging me a total for everything...$800. An extra $425 for the cam seals, hydrolic tensioner, and water pump. Is that price way to high? I understand the labor to do it all but its already tore apart to change the timing belt so? Any advice on what everything should cost please let me know...tia

Hmm lets see... hydraulic tensioner is about $80-90. To replace it is about a 5 minute job once you have the timing belt out. It's only two screws.
Water pump, that's about $50. I got mine at Autozone for about $48 and it came with a lifetime warranty. It's also very easy to replace once the belt is off. It's about 8 or 10 little screws so I'm gonna say 10 minutes of labor at most.
Cam seals... I'm not sure how much those are separately since they came with my upper gasket kit. I'm gonna guess maybe $15-20 at most? Getting to them requires the removal of the valve cover, cam gears, and cam bearing caps. I don't know how long a mechanic would take, but I could probably do it in 30-45 minutes.
So that comes out to $160 in parts, which means he's charging you $425-160 = $265 for an extra hour of labor.
