#58157, "The Disadvantages of having no cat?"

I recently had my catylic converter taken off and put in a straight pipe, other than not being able to pass emission testings, what other disadvantages would I have? Advantages? thx

other main disadvantage is it is illegal and you could, but prolly won't, get fined big time.

disadvantages: illegal, wont pass emissions, smells like shit, can make your exhaust sound like shit as well (depending on setup...)

advantages: much lighter than a cat (at least 10 pounds), better flowing exhaust system, can make your exhaust sound better (once again depending on setup), restores some low end torque lost from a larger cat back exhaust system.... oh and telling ricers you have no catalytic converter..... thats the best one, its priceless really

"what! thats illegal!!"
*bitch slap and phrase of choice here*

Loss of back pressure so less low end torque. If you have turbo more free flowing exhaust and the turbo will probably spool a little faster.

loss of back pressure is not a bad thing, loss of exhaust gas velocity, however is.

oh i forgot the dreaded CEL!!
lmao

fyi.... reguardless of what its supposed to do when removed, putting on a test pipe did noticably increase my low end pull, and all i have are bolt ons im not boosted or anything

you're all thinking "wtf is wrong with this kid?"
im fully aware that doing this as well as adding a bigger exhaust system generally kills low end.... i dont understand it either i just know what happened when i put it on...

no prob IMO, yes my exhaust smells to high heaven, the sound is awesome (resonator and muffler setup), i don't get a cel cuz i took the damn bulb out, i didn't realy notice any power gains/losses but it does seem sportier... other then that there isn't much bad about it... the worst part is the smell, DO NOT STAND NEAR THAT THING emoji

good luck and have fun

i have the std hrc shitty dp to a 2.5 pipe back to a straight through muffler. its a little loud, but helps spool the turbo quicker. i like it, and its fun setting off car alarms in the parking structures!
