I was thinking of running a 160 Degree Thermostat, did anyone do this, any benefits (should run your engine cooler) but would my engine run alittle rich?

There are several running the 160 thermostat here. I did and changed it out, experimental a little while ago. It will be going back in soon.

The ECU seens full temp over 150 degree, so 160 gives the coolant more of a chance to cool the engine so the oil has less of that burden. If the engine is cooler the air should be a little cooler coming in. The ECU may add some fuel because of this, but it also may be needed. Either way I say it's worth it, $15, hell that a few beer if you go out to the bar.

well to update on this. Any one who bought the thermostat have any numbers or suppliers? I know howell is a 2gnt supporter, but still. I noticed on the kenn bell site that they list the 160 for the neon and pt for 8 something. A few other sites have em too , but not too many.

I believe I posted the Motorad number a long time ago, try a search. (Motorad is what Howell sells).

If the thermostat is made for the Neons (especially first gen, don't know if they changed for their 2nd gen) it will work on a 2GNT. Just remove the rubber gasket ring on the thermostat and use a 2GNT gasket and you're good to go.

I am thinking about running this thermostat, has anyone here that can reply, using it right now? i heard that the ecu runs best at 195, and anything less will result in it running rougher.

anyone ever thought of a drive-thru parts store? that would be cool!

I had no problems with it at all, car ran cooler, and if the engine stays cooler, there's a better chane of keeping the incoming air cooler which equals more power. I'll be ordering another 160 so I can run one in my Neon and RS when I get a new set of plugs for the RS.

I have a howell one. It's great, the engine runs cooler (water temp gauge reads a little lower) .

what is the normal temp for the engine? and how would geting a 160 thermometor make the engine cooler? its not like those sensor trick things is it??

Your thermostat determines at what temperature your coolant starts cooling the engine.....the lower temp the thermostat the sooner it starts cooling the cooler the engine will be.
