#57853, "Sensor interchangeablility between Neon & Talon (long)"

I'm trying to fix my dad's misfire problem on his auto tranny 420A powered Neon. I thought it might be typical spark plug wire issues, but we swapped mine over and the problem was still there. Put in new plugs. Got some improvement, but still stutters and stuff under heavier loads (under WOT, the RPMs seem to flutter around 4-5k w/ a ~6000rpm redline). I hooked up the PocketLogger and got the following:

P0340-
Camshaft Position Sensor A
Circuit (Bank 1 or single sensor)

??? Is it safe to try swapping MY CPS onto his car to try to rectify this code? I ask since the Neon has this sensor on the intake cam not the exhaust. Will this work? Will I risk fubarring MY sensor doing this?

P0351-
Ignition Coil Primary/
Secondary Circuit

??? We share the coil pack. His contact/pin for #1 is not shiny like the others. Looks roughed up and maybe some crud on the tip. I'm thinking about swapping coild packs to see if this doesn't clear up all the codes. Any input?

P1391-
Description not found.

??? This probably means nothing, but I figured I'd mention it.

Other than that, his VC gasket spark plug gaskets definitely need replacing. Oil all over the #4 plug (over the top of it actually). Oil had gotten into the cylinder as the plug was soaked to the tip.

Also, car tends to just die when making right hand turns in gear. Just dies. No sputter, no cough, just instant death. emoji

Can anyone help me out on this one? If it's safe to swap sensors, I think I can narrow it down through elimination, but I would like some additional input if it's available.

Going over to Neons.org now to post same.

TIA!

Brian

My contact 1 isn't shiny either..must be a design flaw or something. Imagineer that.

It wouldn't hurt to try it. If they look the same then they probably are the same. I had a neon head but can't remember what it looked like. The worst that could happen would be not working :/

I don't want to risk fubarring my sensor though. Any more input?
