#57368, "noisy valve train"

I have already posted this but I forgot what forum it was in so here goes again. I just had crane valve springs and retainers and ferrea valves put in. I hear an excessive amount of noise, sounds like valve lash but to the best of my knowledge the lash cannot be adjusted, do I need new adjusters or is this normal for the parts i have

if you have stock lifters your probably hearing lifter tick...

get some pt crusiar lifters and new 2.7liter or pt rockers and you'll be golden...

also did they replace the guides and seals when u did the valve job?

Bill

You can have it cheap, fast or good. Pick any two.

If you want it cheap and fast, it's not going to be good.
If you want it cheap and good, it's not going to be fast.

THE GUIDES AND SEALS HAD BEEN REPLACED ABOUT 5K MILES BEFORE I HAD THIS DONE. ALSO CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT SYMPTOMS I WILL SEE IF I HAVE A STUCK VALVE OR BROKEN ROCKER ARM. ON THE INTERSTATE THE OTHER DAY MY CARS EXHAUST NOTE SUDDENLY CHANGED TO INCLUDE A KIND OF STUTTERING SOUND AT ALL RPMS. ITS KIND OF LIKE A MISFIRE BUT NOT AS BAD AS IF IT WAS A TOTAL MISFIRE LIKE FROM THE IGNITION. THE CAR IS A LITTLE DOWN ON POWER SINCE THIS HAPPENED, ESPECIALLY UNDER BOOST. THANKS FOR THE INFO.

The first thing I would check is the caps lock.

I agree with Bill though that the sound you originally reported sounds like it may be bad lifters. You can get PT lifters for around $90 I think - they're an upgrade from the stock hydraulic lifters.

As far as the exhaust note is concerned - check for an exhaust leak. Also check to make sure that all of the spark plugs are screwed in tightly.

THE FIRST THING I DID WAS CHECK THE EXHAUST AND THEN THE PLUGS AND COIL AND WIRES. IF A LASH ADJUSTER COLLAPSED WOULDNT THAT AFFECT THE VALVE OPENING AND CLOSING, CAUSING THAT CYLINDER TO RUN LESS EFFECIENTLY THAN THE OTHERS. THE CAR IS DOWN ON POWER AND I THINK I CAN HEAR A ROCKER RATTLING AROUND. IT WILL BE A WEEK OR SO BEFORE I CAN GET THE NEW ADJUSTERS, DO YOU THINK I AM GOING TO FUCK UP MY VALVE TRAIN IN THE MEANTIME? THANKS FOR ANY INFO

Yes you can break the rocker arms if the lifters are too worn. Go pull the valve cover off and check them. You shouldn't be able to wiggle the rocker arms much if any. If they wiggle, get new lifters.
