You wont get a deep V8 sound by poping your headgasket. You probably just blew out an exhaust gasket somewhere. As for the smoke coming out of the dipstick, a small amount of this is normal if you dont have gapless rings. That is gas pressure escaping out the ring gaps and into the crankcase. If you have a fair amount of smoke, that is bad. 9 times out of 10 this is caused by a cracked piston ring land if you have stock pistons. If the ring land is still in tact, the motor will still run smooth (mine still ran with 3 cracked pistons), but DO NOT spray anymore if this is the case because you can break the land completely and score the hell out of your cylinder wall. You need to do a compression test to tell if this is the case or not. Based on your story, if you have stock pistons, im guessing that you have a busted piston, sorry  . Matt
