Ive got a Fluidyne radiator installed and my stock fans have to go bye bye. Who else here uses that radiator, and what Flex-a-lite fans or slim fans do you use that will fit (preferably without too much custom fabrication). Will the turbo ones work or will I have to get the universal ones? what are your setups? Thanks

thanks. So how'd they fit, did you have to do any adjustments?

They fit fine once I made clearance for the upper and lower pipes. It took a dremel and about 10 minutes to make them fit right. As far as I know, none of them will fit correctly w/o a little adjustment. drop them on top of the radiator and you'll see exactly where you need to cut out.

You could probably do it w/ a pair of cutters if you don't have a dremel.

I dont understand, what exactly are you cutting? I have a cheap dremel somewhere in my house...

You're cutting part of the plastic housing. It actually interferes w/ the upper and lower radiator hoses, so you simply cut about a 1/2 circle in there for clearance and that's it.

ok I know what youre talking about now. that same cutout is in the turbo ones. So part #220 at Summit right?

In the turbo model, it's in the center (both of them), so it wouldn't do you any good and you'd have to cut the same thing anyways. Yes, p/n 220.

Hey I'm also in search of this fan. In summit, it only shows the 225. Is that the same thing?

No, it's not the same thing.

I don't have any pics that are worth anything, but here's the instructions I gave to Brynden and he said they worked just fine:

Yep, you'll need to splice a few wires if you want to keep your stock
fan operation (I can't imagine a reason not to).

Here's all I did.

1. lay your new rad. out and place the fans squarely on top.
2. Find where the U/L rad. hoses will hit the fan housing and draw the semicircle cutout onto the fan housing.
3. Remove the rubber/metal fan shroud seal from the plastic housing.
4. Use a dremel (or whatever) to cut out the areas you marked. make
sure to leave an extra 1/4" or so from the aluminum for the thickness of your hoses and clamps.
5. Put the rubber back onto the plastic housing and cut the rubber
with clippers to match the plastic housing.
6. mount the fans onto the rad. It should squeeze pretty securely
and squarely between the mounting screw hole boss.
7. I used the tie strap things to mount the fans on just as the FAL
instructions say. It doesn't sound very ideal at first, but they hold it on there very well. Make sure you put the screw on things on the right direction so that they hold it tightly.

8. Take your old fans off.
9. Drain the old Rad.
10. Take the old Rad off.
11. Mount the new rad. (** before I did this, I clipped the ties off the wires on the fan and rerouted them so that I had a + and - wire on each side so that they reach the stock wiring which is on each side of the fan housing. If you run the wires inside the fan housing, make sure to wrap them tightly so they don't get hit by the fan.)
12. Wire it up and you're good to go.



Here's the other email I sent about wiring:

I can't see the color of the wires coming from the fan b/c they've been covered up and I don't want to cut through the insulation. It should be obvious which is which, so I'll assume red on the fan to be + and black to be -.

I clipped the wires coming from the original fan on the fan side of the harness so that the new fans would not be hard wired into the car. I still use the factory clips so that I can just undo the clips and remove the fans. All the following info can be found on page 90-85 of the service manual if you have one.


Pass side fan (AC fan):

Red from fan connects to blue (lo operation) and blue/white stripe (hi operation)from car harness

Black from fan connects to blue/black stripe and black from car
harness.

The AC fan has 2 modes. One called lo for when the AC is running, but the engine is not hot enough for the fans to be running and hi for when the engine is hot and both fans need to run.


Driver side fan:

Red from fan connects to blue from car harness

Black from fan connects to black from car harness



Hopefully all of that makes sense. Let me know if you have any q's
