if u want your car to be fast you have to move through the gears fast. you can do so by shortening the "throw" of the shifter to decrease the amount of time that your engine or whatever is out of gear, so you can be in gear going faster. its all up to the driver what they want, all the pros use shortys, but i cud give a f*k as long as its not broken. when i am older, my ferarri will have a shorty

The overall performance of a car depends on the car and the driver, thats the reason why manuel trannys are faster than autos simply because you have the total control of the gears. A shorter shift throw equals a faster gear shift.

True but our throws are pretty short stock. I have ridden in a couple of Civics and MR2's and our throws are a hell of a lot shorter than theirs. Main reason I haven't upgraded to a Short Shifter.

I really noticed a big difference in the way I shifted once I got the short shifter. At first, I didn't know that I was already in first. Yeah, as they said, it decreases your throw. Also, I noticed that I missed a shift less. Actually no misses at all so far. And it looks so cool just shifting with your wrist. Just my .02.

I guess it all comes down to personal pref. I shortened my own since i had all the tools. I love it now! The thing i really like is that it doesnt' cover up part of the radio now. And u will be able to shift much faster. If these aren't really important to you, then leave it stock. NO big deal
