Have you spent any time in the turbo forum here? That is such a common thing to do here that I bet if you narrowed your search parameters, the search would find just what you were looking for.

BTW, if you get forged internals and then bolt up the Stage 2, you would actually be Stage 3.

Specifically, what do you want to know? What CR to run? What is the "missing link?" What tuning issues have come up? What is the deal with that fricking oil return line install? The more specific you get, the better your answers will be.

Welcome to 2GNT, by the way. We ARE glad to have you here. emoji

It's a good little motor and it can put out plenty of power with built internals. There are quite a few people boosting the 420a.

There are plenty of success and failure stories chronicled in the turbo forum - years and years of all sorts of people boosting. From plain ol kits to wild ass 400whp setups...but you gotta spend some time in the forum to really see it. Its really too general of a question "are there problems". Since you're goin forward with building it up - do yourself a favor and spend some time reading the turbo forum. If you have a more specific question try searching in there. If you can't find what you're looing for then there are a ton of people on this board who can help find an answer.

As far as mods go, we have quite a big aftermarket to choose from. You've found the built rotating assembly components. There are also cam/valvetrain, throttle bodies, suspention, exhaust...plenty of components to choose from. The head on our engine flows air very well. Check this forum(Technical) for posts on the various mods, like intake manifold porting and whatnot. Here's one for ya - check my sig for a writeup on how to convert a 60mm Jeep TB.

Good luck and welcome to the site.

Just a side note - you should know that a Hahn Stage II kit does not come with a 20g - it comes with a 16g. I'm sure if you really want the 20g you can call them and work something out though.

I'll take a quick stab at your question - but like Metal Jim said, I'm only one case, and hundreds of people on this board are turbo'd and each have had unique experiences.

I've been boosted for a little over 3 months now and I have had very little problems. I attribute that to the fact that I have researched ALOT and know quite a bit about our cars and so I knew what I was doing when I put it on. I have found that the success of putting a turbo on a 420a is the result of 2 things 1) How much money you have. I have a decent paying job and so money wasn't an issue when it came to doing it right. If you even thinking of cutting a corner, you'll have trouble and .... 2) the fuel system. The turbo and all the piping associated is really just a bolt-on, what makes it run and RUN RIGHT is the fuel system. Every problem I've had with kit thus far has been fuel system related. Please make sure you understand what you do with your fuel system. Do that and I believe you will have great success.

BTW - the bottom end kit is a great idea too. I have a built engine with forged internals sitting in my kitchen right now myself.

Bill

You can have it cheap, fast or good. Pick any two.

If you want it cheap and fast, it's not going to be good.
If you want it cheap and good, it's not going to be fast.
If you want it good and fast, it's not going to be cheap.
