#56577, "Outlaw ThermoBlok Kit for 2GNT's!"

Outlaw Engineering has just completed the prototype ThermoBlok spacer kit for the 420A and 4G64 2GNT engines. We are now in need of a local volunteer(s) to allow us to install and test this new product.

If you are in the northern Indianapolis area and are willing to have us tinker with your Eclipse, please contact us. For additional info go to our website at www.outlawengineering.com. There you will find info on what this product does and what would be required for the prototype installation as well as contact information for us.

Not trying to be a dick or anything, but hasn't this been done before with negligable results?? Was it Corbin that made them maybe. Maybe these are made of something different, I dunno, but I am almost sure the concept has been tried before and the results were almost non-existant...

i believe the spacer that your talking about was the TB spacer which didnt pan out. if i remember correctly corbin's extended the intake runners and saw some gains. i may be wrong tho

well, basically if i remember right, they are trying to eliminate heat traveling from the block into the intake manifold and thus keeping the air charge cooler and denser longer...in theory it was supposed to work but someone give them ur car and test it out...who knows. Could be the next big mod!

Corbin's went between the two halves of the manifold. This (I believe) goes between the manifold and the head. I think this should be more promising.

Why not just make the whole damn mani out of phenolic? Then you eliminate heat retention AND save a couple pounds. Hmmmmm....

I actually had plans to make a "plastic" intake manifold. I would get the flanges machined like the intake spacers. Then source tubes and blocks to make up the remainder of the parts. I had trouble finding curved bends that could handle the extreme heat and chemicals. Then, I was concerned about whether epoxy would adequately hold all the parts together. That project is low on my to-do list.

Wouldn't it be possible to have a machine shop CNC one out a "billet" (hehe) of phenolic or other heat resistant plastic material? Just a thought.

BTW - my earlier post should read like Lawrence from Office Space would say it: "fuckin' eh, man." Not "fucking a man." That would be gay and wrong. Just so nobody starts some shit about that. emoji

I emailed them to volunteer my car. Got denied. lol. I just got it back from the machine shop today and they were concerned about the break-in period playing a factor I guess. Plus they told me they wanted a lightly modded engine; i.e. intake and exhaust, not the extent that I have gone. emoji

Remember this:
http://forums.2gnt.com/dcboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=5&topic_id=50105&mesg_id=50105&listing_type=search

I posted this along time ago. I contacted them and told them about the 2Gnt community. I told them how the 420a is a widely used engine and everything. I even call these people on the phone. Then I came here and got flamed for it.

The 2gnt community quickly rejects any new possible mod. That is why we dont have a intake manifold for our cars, and why Hondas have so much mods and vendors helping them.

There is even dyno plots and a long history of phenolic spacers, yet the 2gnt community still rejects them.

If the price is right i will be the first one to buy.

im with talon speed, This is the way i feel, if it gives me HP then ill buy it. i dont care if the mod is Shit in my gas tank, if the shit give me 10hp at the crank then fuck im gonna be take a crap in my tank. For company to ever make stuff for us we have to be suportive. if they get a negative reaction from us their thinking that no one will buy thier product and all the money they spent on R&D was waisted. If they can find a car to make it and its dyno proven to give HP then ill buy if(give a decent price).

I pretty much agree with ^^^ there. If there is something available that will make me more power, I'm all about getting it for my car, but at the same time, when people like Corbin and Dino say that it's not really worth it, I have to believe them. You gotta remember, it's not like those guys are just talking here. Corbin made something like that once upon a time and found that the imporvements weren't exactly, well, weren't there at all. It's a good idea in theory, and may quite possible turn out to be a good mod, but if the machining and production costs are such that it runs $150 and you only get 3hp out of it, wouldn't it be better to invest in a UDP or a Jeep TB?

I don't think the majority of the 2GNTers are cheap pessimists who complain there is no performance market for their cars only to mock those who would try to develop a product. I think we are all about value. If we all had $15,000 to put into paid off cars, then hell yeah, I want 2 of everything! emoji But we don't, and a no0b with a very limited budget may want to spend his money on something with a bit more value. There's nothing wrong with that. Wouldn't you agree? emoji

I say, someone in that area go help those guys out in developing this thing. But don't hate on the people who need more HP for their dollar right now. It's all good. emoji

The market for Honda parts is a lot bigger than the market for 2gnt parts. Just a fact of life...that's why we don't have that many things available. Not cus we poop on every idea.

Somebody should definitely test this out and get dyno results. Any insulation between the head and the manifold should only help. The question is "how much". Its akin to wrapping your headers. It will help, but the gains are hard to nail down.
