#56467, "white smoke ahhh"

I just got my 1999 eclipse rs with 2.0 liter dohc ,2 weeks ago with 69,000 miles ON IT, somtimes when i crank it white smoke comes from the tailpipe, not all the time ,only when it sits idle for a little while,i just changed the spark plugs and noticed that one of the plugs had oil on it,so i changed the valve cover gaskets and spark plug gaskets, and put new plugs in .and it stoped for a little while then started missing and smoking again, sometimes it misses and smokes, somtimes it dont,it seems to start missing when im driving in the city and it gets warm, somtimes when i mash the throttle fast it misses and makes a backfiring noise coming from the air intake area of the engine, when i power brake it it does the samething, misses and makes the backfiring noise, but it only smokes when it is idleing and that is only somtimes,I checked the plugs after about 3 days after the gasket changes, and there is still a little oil on that ONE plug,THE PLUG ON THE CYLINDER THATS FIRST IN LINE FROM THE BELTS AND PULLEYS, still not as bad as it was though.iam going to change the plug wires soon,I am hoping that will do the trick, but i dont think it will ,if any one knows anything about this or has had this problem please help me ,,, THANKS,DA emoji

i would check your coil that could be the cause of the misfire but for the smoke white i thought was coolant/water which would mean head gasket, but if it just smokes a little when u start it its prob just moisture in the exhaust nothing to worry about but if its smoking all the time then.......

If the smoke is intermittent when you idle, it *could* be condensation with the humidity as high as it's been lately.

With the misfire/stutter, I would suggest getting some new plug wires. You can get some decent Bosch ones for under $40 at AutoZone. That solved my stutter problem which was to the point where teh car was almost undriveable.

Good luck to you. You have come to the right place. emoji

The stutter is probly the sparkplugs or the wires. The smoke is prolly like ^^ said condensation in the muffler and exhaust pipes.
If you go on long trips it should go away. And one more thing the people probly washed your car b4 they sold it to you, They may have sprayed water in the muffler.

Do you have a CEL? Check your upstream oxygen sensor. That could be a possibility as well.

As everyone said above ^^^.
The misfire is most likely the wires and the coil.
IT happened to me before, but even worst, one of the cylinder just DO"NT go on, SO I drove with 3 cylinders for 1 week lol.
But then I fixed it by getting the Bocsh Platium +4 spark plugs with the set of new wires...and it's gone..even better then before. (at idle)

About the white smoke, you will hope it is the humities and condensation... if not, then 90% will be teh headgasket....(pain in the ass to change) good luck.

I need some luck too......shit.
Hope that helps.
Later.
Gil:thumbsup
