#56347, "Magnaflow or OBX??"

Hi,

I'm new here and new to the Import car world and I'm about to get my first car(I'm 17)an 1995 Eclipse GS with an auto trans for $3400 at this repo car place. When I do get it some of the first modifications I want to do to it is H/I/E!I know what header and cold air intake I want to get,but I can't decide on a cat-back exhaust system.I narrowed it down to two the OBX racing series or the Magnaflow cat-back.I was at Magnaflow's official web site and I listened to their sound clips on a RSX and I thought it sounds awesome, but I would like to know how it sounds, fits, and performs on a 2g NT Eclipse compared to the OBX Racing series Exhaust system.I would like an exhaust that has a really deep agressive sound to it,works good with Greddy headers and a AEM cold air intake, doesn't leak as much, fits real good, and you could actually feel the power! So with that being said, out of these two exhaust which one do you people think will suit me best?Any info will be greatly appreciated and I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I'm new and I want to get a good exhaust!

Thanks,
D emoji

I wish I had an Eclipse!!

I would recommend the magnaflow as I've heard it on my friends GST as well as numerous other vehicles. It sounds great on the GST and ever better on my bud's SVT Lightining. emoji Goodluck and welcome to 2GNT! Also, checkout the main site for reviews:

I have just a MagnaFlow unversal offset can on my rear section and it sounds great. It's deep and only screams when you really get on it. Even then, it's not buzzy.
I have a Pacesetter 4-2-1 header and everything in between in stock. With a header, you're likely to get some rasp at certain RPMs under load. If so, you can buy a Cherry Bomb glasspack to put in between the cat and the back to get rid of it. They're only about $20-30. You might look into this when you're getting the rest of the exhaust installed.

Welcome to the best damn site evar! emoji

Thanks guys,I think I'm going to get the Magnaflow exhaust because I love the sound of it on the RSX and I'm sure it will sound even better on a Eclipse!I'm just curiuos what is the loudest exhaust available for the 2g N/T Eclipse? Also will an exhaust made for the turbo models work well with the N/T models also will it fit good?Last questions does any body have sound clips of their exhaust on a 2g Eclipse N/T that I could listen to?

Thanks,
DJ

I believe that the Turbo cat-back will bolt up, but they are usually bigger, around 3", which is not good for a NT. We need our backpressure to keep bottom end torque.

UH OH! Somebody hasn't been listening to the DarkOne! emoji

We don't need the back pressure. We need exhaust gas velocity! Larger diameter = lower velocity which can affect powah. Turbos flow more air and can maintain good velocity through the larger pipe.

Whoa. Advanced tuning... emoji

i think i heard magnaflow makes good catback exhaust systems.. i have an apexi n1 for my GST..it's nice. Thermal is also good.. never heard anything great/good about OBX..when i hear OBX brand i think of like Type-R or APC..but i dunno.maybe they make good stuff.

Hey DR1665.... ... j/k man...haha... ...j/k again
Old habits tend to die hard, I have read Dark One's posts about backpressure vs. exaust velocity. So, to correct myself, the GST exaust on an almost stock to modestly modded NT will SLOW DOWN exaust gases too much and hurt low end torque. The gain in the top end is usually not worth it on a street car.

trust me there is a big sound difference between any exaust on a turbo vs nt
mine was quiet on a gst and on mine its loud as hell
guess the turbo adds a dampener to the mix

Look at sig VVVVV for sound clips
I believe first 3 clips are of Greddy header, CAI, stock cat, and Apexi N1 2.5" catback.

i gots obx with stock piping. its hella loud without the silencer. i have the b3 bullet style muff with 4 inch slanted tip and 2.5 inlet. nice for me. i have a gutted cat so i get a little rasp at the very top end, but otherwise, i can park next to other cars and rattle their body panels. as well as other things like loose change in my car.

Having Problems? Heres my Three step solution to anything 2gnt related.
Step 1: Put down everything in your hands.
Step 2: Grab a lucky strike, Smoke it.
Step 3: Walk to the fridge, double fist some keystone ice, sit down in the shade, drink one beer, finish cigarette, drink other beer, roll a joint, smoke it, walk back to your problem, and in about 5 minutes the solution will come to you.
If not. Go here: here

If still nothing, your trying to hard. Start over at step 1.
