I was wondering if this can be done..

Take the longer axle, and replace it with a shorter axle. And have a transfer case between the shortened axle, and the tranny.

I know that now the new shortened axle side would have less power than the other (stock) side, so can't the gearing of the front differential be changed to accomodate this?

Just a quick idea..

Being attached to a differential, it wouldn't get much power, especially with an open differential. All of the power would simply go to the other front halfshaft, as it would be easier to turn. Another consideration is making the gear ratios work right. That is already geared down to 3.XX:1. If this was to be used with a standard 2G DSM driveline, the car would be limited to 62 MPH.

I had a really simple awd idea, and I actually did it. Yeah, I bought a 91 GSX. Can't get much simpler than that.

true....

you would want the rear tires hoooked up to their own shaft, and the front tires to be ran like a standard frontwheel drive type deal, look at the tranny of a awd, i was amazed at how it was done on my talon

But they you're paying more money for a weaker engine. Personally, I've had my 2g for a few years now and I really don't care too much about looks anymore.
