#56316, "what a dual exhaust COULD look like"
Jul-30-03 10:46 AM by Eagle 5

here is a pic of what a dual exhaust could look like. all i did was copy the exhaust from the left side, flip it and put it on th right. i like how it looks. not too bad. not sure about clearance on right side though

omg. thats not only clean, but it looks sweet. i was thinking of a way to split the header collector into 2 pairs of 2 and run straight pipes...either way good stuff. can you imagine how loud that might be with 2 universal N1 mufflers...lol

youll definately want a X over pipe. it will sound like (because it is) a 2 cyl on each pipe. dodge made the mistake of not putting a x-over on a few of the vipers and they said they sounded like crap and quickly went back to x-over. the install is pretty clean but id like to see a cutout on the passengers side for the muffler just like on the drivers side. i personally wanna just run a dual muffler setup right out the middle sorta like what they did with some of the porche's. dual exhaust does look prety bad ass tho

That exhaust looks weird for some reason, isn't the piping supposed to go over the axel?

well if the piping is too large, you cant go over the axle due to lack of space. im guessing thats just 3" pipe tho.

The N1 cat-back goes under the axle and (like mine) the GReddy SP goes over. Just the design, when I was putting mine on it did look like it would be a tight fit over the axle if it was any larger then 2.5"

maybe true, but im putting a turbo kit on my car. im getting an exhaust because im putting the kit on my car so it would be functional for my car, or at least to a degree. maybe put a x over pipe here, what about this ?

For Ford Lightining/Harley
Features:
More Flow with deep barratone sound
Adds 6+ HP in 40 to 50 minute
Adds 9+ Foot-pounds of torque
Complete Stainless Steel X-Pipe WILL NOT RUST!
Forget expensive welding this one uses simple hand tools
(14+HP Mac Cold Air Kits also available)

Wouldn't a resonator or glasspack cancel out the "2 cylinder sound"? And under constant boost the exhaust flow would be rather steady, so I'm not sure that it would sound bad at all IMO.

One big turbo, one big pipe, one big muffler, one big atmosphere. Anything else is a waste of time, money, and more weight.

When you go fast, you don't care what it looks like. Stupid things like dual exhaust are for show cars - don't try to justify it as a "performance mod" because it isn't.

The reason why the vipers needed the X pipe was each bank of 5 cylinders had their own sepreate dedicated exhaust pipe, so it sounded like you had two big displacement 5 cylinder engines under the hood instead of a huge 10 cylinder.

It is not actually a bad idea from a performance standpoint (that's why they did it in the first place), but naturally with a viper the "sound" is very important, as it is even more of an image car for people with too much money and too little common sense, than a performance car.

That exhaust setup pictured there (and the same with the SRT4, the s2000, and other 4 cyl cars out there) has the exhaust pulses from all 4 cylinders going into one manifold, then splitting afterwards. So you will have the sound of a 4 cylinder (all four exhaust pulses) going through both of those pipes.

Where the split occurs doesn't matter if they come off the same manifold, just like on some cars it splits off at the muffler and is essentially for decoration (see Honda's Accord V6, or some of those aftermarket mufflers for Neons).

For our cars, it would just be a decorative effect. You can get plenty of flow through one pipe, so there is no benefit to adding the extra weight of that second pipe.

ummm....no. I dont want my car to sound as loud as possible liek a ricer would. One, im not getting a dual exhaust, it was a picture i made of what one COULD look like. Two, i would be worried about it sounding like crap or too loud, another reason i would not get it.

not sure where you got the idea that i want my car to be loud as possible and sound like a ricer. i dont want it to sound like a ricer. im most liekly getting an Apexi N1 exhaust. unless i find somethig else i like.

Ummm... my Apex'i N1 goes over. No problems either. And about the duel exhaust, gay imo unless it is a Domestic V-8 or bigger. Also, about the duel asshole exhaust... emoji . That looks gay on Porsche's and Corvettes so why would it look good on a Eclipse? I say no. Just go with one, but all that is my opinion.

I like the way a dual exhaust looks, and how would the exhaust getting split and going through two mufflers be louder? You'd have less gas and noise to each one, so it should be quieter. Not like the mufflers are going to amplify the exhaust note.

And my opinion is the back end of a Corvette would look wrong without dual exhaust. Dual exhaust has a classic V-8 muscle car look, I like it.

Apex'i N1 for 95-99 Eclipse RS and GS. That is what it says and the only way to get it to fit was to go over. If I would have even attempted to go under the muffler wouldn't be attached to the mounts and if I could some way get them attached, the muffler would be upside down and would go twords the middle of the car instead of twords the diver side like it is supposed to. Maybe it is a updated version or something, but it does go over.
