#56184, "I got crankwalk Need help"

I was lookin around posts where I figured that I have crankwalk. I noticed this since my car stalls during hard turns. So my question is what exactly is crankwalk, how do I fix it?

Are you turbo?? Only the stock turbo motor, the 4G63, experienced crankwalk. Usually between like 95 and 97 I think. If you are non-turbo, like most of us, you have a 420A and we do not suffer from this problem.

AS stated previously stated the 2gnt's can't crankwalk, it's a condition only with the 4g63's specifically the 7 bolts. To answer your question it can only be cured with a new motor. Ask remy, I believe he's had some experience with the ol CW

my car is a 98 gs and I had to put in a 96 gs engine 6 months ago. my car stalls on hard turns and I thought that was a symptom of crankwalk. I hear mixed feelings about crankwalk on turnos and nonturbos. So if I dont have crankwalk why does my car stall at hard turns

have you checked your power steering? maybe something is wrong with that and when you turn hard, it puts too much strain on you rengine or something and it causes the engine to stall.

on a side not.. ANY car can get crankwalk, its just that the 4g63 7 bolt is well known for it. its rare on any engine to get crankwalk btu it can still happen.

the symptom of crankwalk when turning left is that the clutch pedal sticks to the floor and does not come back up, not stalling. i think you have a power steering problem

Could be a fuel system problem too. If you don't have high enough pressure you could be sloshing fuel around in your fuel rail when you turn hard enough. Just a thought.

take your power steering belt off and go for a drive and see it it still does it. If not its your power steering pump. What kind of noise does it make when it stalls? squeeks? grinds? or no noise at all like you just turned the key off? Have you checked your wireing harness to make sure thier isnt something shorting out when you turn?

Crankwalk.. haha. Yeah. My carburator needs cleaning, too.

You don't have crankwalk. You have either a fueling problem, or an electrical problem. If the car just shuts off when you're in a hard corner, you're probably losing power somewhere. Think alternator or battery. If it stalls but retains power, suspect fuel system, or worse, oil. We don't have a windage tray, after all.

someone once said that it was their ignition coil that was causing it...i guess try this, someone said take your ignition coil while the car is on and try and tilt or turn it and if the car dies then taht is the problem...i think that was it? ill dig up the thread.

here it is "car dies while taking long turns WtF help!!"

as far as the ignition coil, I relplaced it less then a year ago. Also I dont always stall when making a hard turn sometimes the engine will go down to 500rmp and i will be pushing the gass and once I am off the turn the car will be normal. Also when the car does stall it makes no noise, just shuts down like I turned the key to off. My battey is also less then 1 year old

As stated before, ANY inline cylinder, manual tranny car can get crankwalk.

It sounds like a fuel problem too me.

too much oil in motor could bog down crank when sloshed up.....

get injector cleaner new fuel filter

Bill

You can have it cheap, fast or good. Pick any two.

If you want it cheap and fast, it's not going to be good.
If you want it cheap and good, it's not going to be fast.

REMY the reason he said 95's dont get crankwalk Is because most of the early 95 gst/gsx's were built with the leftover 1g 4g63 blocks which were not plagued with crank walk.

ANY inline cylinder, manual transmission, car CAN get crankwalk; but 4g63s had the most occurances. Also 1997 4g63s had the most reported incidents of crankwalk.
